Orrington Recall
(Orrington) – Recall petitions are circulating again in Orrington after Selectmen fired the latest town manager they hired just a few months ago. The petitions target board chair Allan Snell and Selectmen Charles Green and Christopher Robinson. The Bangor Daily News reports those are the three who voted to dismiss Joan Gibson whom they’d hired as town manager earlier this year. She is the third town manager to leave Orrington in less than a year.
Bucksport Assault
(Bucksport) – A 30-year old Bucksport man faces assault charges against three children he watched at the motel he manages. The Bangor Daily News report Kaleem Adnan faces multiple felony charges. Adnan watched the three children while their mother was working in Blue Hill. Among the alleged assaults that Bucksport police investigated, a 6-year old girl claims Adnan put her inside a stinky refrigerator and wouldn’t let her out. Adnan also face drug trafficking charges, and the Bucksport Code Enforcement Officer cited the Spring Fountain Motel where he worked with numbers code violations.
Manslaughter Indictment
(Belfast) – Grand jurors in Waldo County have found there is enough evidence against a 24-year old Bangor man to send him to trial for manslaughter and OUI. WABI-TV reports Monty Judkins was allegedly driving drunk last December when a car went off Route 1-A in Winterport, killing 18-year old Isaac Miller. Judkins and another passenger in the car suffered serious injuries.
Naked Man
(Belfast) – A Belfast man face another indecent conduct charge after a hiker came across him lying naked on a hiking trail. The Pen Bay Pilot reports 64-year old Elvis Robbins was prone on the ground earlier this month when the hiker called 9-1-1 thinking he’d found a body. Robbins was very much alive and very undressed. It’s the 4th time he’s been charged with indecent behavior in the past 10-years.
Relay for Life
(Ellsworth) Folks will flock to the Ellsworth Elementary Middle School track this Saturday to raise money for those affected by cancer. It’s the 20th anniversary of the Hancock County Relay for Life. Event lead Brandy Marchetti tells Star 97-7 some of the money stays local, but regardless – it all goes to a good cause. Individuals and teams can register right up until the morning of the event on Saturday. The walk is from 11 AM to 11 PM.
Missing Man
(Bucksport) A Bucksport family is asking for the public’s help locating a missing loved one who hasn’t been seen in more than 2 years. WVII-TV reports 28-year-old Colin Arey was last seen in January 2017 when a family member dropped him off in the Brewer area. The family didn’t report him missing until about a month later. Arey studied art in New York City and also worked as a substitute teacher and education technician for the Bucksport School Department. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Bucksport police.
Biter Held
(Rockland) A Rhode Island man remains in the Knox County Jail after allegedly biting a man’s neck during a fight outside a Rockland bar. Village Soup dot-Com reports 31-year-old Carryton Edwards of Newport Rhode Island tried to bring a drink outside the Myrtle Street Tavern on Sunday and was stopped by a bouncer. Edwards allegedly pulled the bouncer’s sweatshirt over his head and began punching him. A bystander tried to intervene and that’s who Edwards allegedly bit. Edwards is in Maine working on a project in the Midcoast. Bail was set Monday at $25-hundred-dollars cash.
Moose Hunt
(Scarborough) Maine is set to issue more hunting permits for moose this year. A Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokesperson says an advisory council has signed off on a permit increase of more than 10%. That will raise the total permits to 2,820. The state allocates the permits via a lottery system; the drawing is scheduled for June 8th in Scarborough.
Conversion Therapy Bill
(Augusta) Governor Janet Mills has signed a bill that bans so-called conversion therapy. With her action on Wednesday, Maine joins 16 other states that have banned the practice, which aims to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.
