Body Recovered
(Bangor) – Maine Warden Service divers recovered an Indian Island man’s body from the Kenduskeag Stream yesterday, hours after he fell into the rough waters. Spokesman Mark Latti reports to Star 97.7 that 41-year old John Nadeau’s body was on the river bottom, not far from where he fell in late Sunday afternoon. Latti said Nadeau was taking pictures when he slipped from a platform railing and fell in.
Fast Food Scam
(Bangor) – Police in Bangor are short on specifics but say a fast food restaurant and a young employee were apparent victims of a very sophisticated scam. A McDonald’s manager reported to police Sunday morning that a worker failed to return after taking a cash deposit, supposedly to a bank. Instead, it appears the worker followed phone instructions to deposit the money elsewhere. Brewer police found the worker in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Relatives had posted that the young woman worked at the Broadway McDonalds. Police do not plan to charge her with any crimes in the scam.
Paving Closure
(Ellsworth) – Pavement grinding operations will close down an Ellsworth street tomorrow. City officials tell Star 97.7 that milling operations on Hancock Street between Main and Pine Streets will force a temporary closure. The grinding will prepare the street for re-paving and it should reopen later in the day Wednesday.
Jordan Homestead Preserve
(Ellsworth) A recreational area in Ellsworth will soon become more accessible to outdoor enthusiasts. Frenchman Bay Conservancy was awarded a $15-thousand-dollar grant and will use it to add a parking area at the Jordan Homestead Preserve on Bayside Road. Land project manager Kat Deely tells Star 97-7 the work should begin next month. The grant money was awarded by the Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund. Frenchman Bay Conservancy’s application was ranked second out of 15 applications competing in the category of “Acquisition and management of public lands, parks, wildlife conservation areas and public access.”
