Building Fire
(Ellsworth) – Fire badly damaged a model home at an Ellsworth modular home dealer last night. Firefighters from Lamoine, Trenton and Hancock responded to back up Ellsworth at Broughman Builders on Route 1 shortly before 7–thirty last evening. The first arriving fire fighters reported flames shooting out of one end of the building. Interior firefighters found a floor on the first story had burned out and the flames spread to the second story. No one is injured, and the cause is under investigation. The firefighting effort closed down Route 1 for more than an hour.
Bar Harbor School Flood
(Bar Harbor) – A broken pipe feeding a sprinkler system has flooded the Connors Emerson School in Bar Harbor. Parents got word yesterday there would be no school today at the K-through-8 school complex because of the damage and the time it’ll take to clean things up. The pipe burst sometime during the weekend. Administrators report several classrooms and the gym received flood damage.
Mattawamkeag Fire
(Mattawamkeag) – Six people are homeless after fire tore through their house in Mattawamkeag yesterday. Firefighters responded to the Hathaway Road shortly before 10-o’clock in the morning, finding the home nearly fully involved in flames. WABI-TV reports no one was home at the time, but a couple of pets perished in the flames, and one firefighter suffered minor injuries. There’s no word on the cause. The Red Cross is helping the displaced residents.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) – The court master who oversees whether Maine is providing mental health services in line with a decades-old consent decree is preparing legislation to end it. Maine Public reports court master Dan Wathen says the proposed legislation would meet all the requirements for services under the 1990 decree and allow it to end. Wathen says that the proposal will include a probationary period to ensure Maine’s health agency can make the needed requirements.
STONINGTON, Maine (AP) – A project to assess the flooding vulnerability of one of Maine’s most important lobstering ports is among a slate of improvements that will receive state funding. The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry says it has awarded nearly $270,000 in its latest round of coastal community grants. The grants are designed to help coastal areas reduce flooding, restore fishery habitat and protect working waterfronts.
