Fatal Crash
(Gouldsboro) – Two people are dead following a head on collision in Gouldsboro Christmas morning. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department reports that 35-year old John Organes of Sullivan crossed the center line on Route One near the Chicken Mill Road and slammed head on into a vehicle that 60-year old Michael Grant of Orrington drove. Organes died as did Grant’s 57-year old wife Lisa who was a passenger in her husband’s vehicle. The sheriff’s department is reconstructing the crash reported at about quarter to 10 Christmas morning. Organes had a criminal history of driving infractions.
Mariaville Fire
(Mariaville) – Little was left of a tree house type home in Mariaville when firefighters responded to the scene yesterday morning. The call to the Morrison Farm Road came in just about 11:30 in the morning. Firefighters from Mariaville and Ellsworth got help from Aurora, Osborn, Waltham, Hancock, Trenton and Lamoine during the blaze. The building is a total loss. The man who lived there year round was unhurt. It’s not yet known how the fire started.
Drug Arrest
(Hancock) – An OUI detail in Hancock County early Sunday morning landed a pair of alleged drug dealers in jail. Deputy Dakota Dupuis reports that he observed a mini-van going at a high rate of speed on Route 1 at about 1-o’clock in the morning and pulled it over. He charged 34-year old Juan Landron-Sanchez and 26-year old Yahaira Perez-Miret with felony cocaine trafficking. Landron-Sanchez also faces OUI, driving without a license and trafficking in prison contraband charges. Both remained in jail pending a court appearance.
Planned Power Outage
(Blue Hill) – Line workers have installed a lot of new power poles between Blue Hill and Surry, working feverishly for the past several months to string a new power line. This weekend, they’ll turn on the electricity with the new, thicker lines. Emera Maine says people living in Blue Hill, Brooklin, Sedgwick, Brooksville, Penobscot, Deer Isle and Stonington can expect the power to go out at about midnight Saturday night while the switch over occurs. The outage should last no longer than 4-and-a-half hours. The project started earlier this year and will continue after the power switch-over as phone and cable TV lines are moved to the new poles.
John Remick Passing
(Ellsworth) – Local entertainer John Remick has died. Remick, who battled cancer for the better part of a year died just before Christmas according to family members. In an interview with Star 97.7 last June, Remick said his standup comedy show included his cancer ordeal on purpose, but in an entertaining way. John Remick was 55-years old.
