Ranked Choice Recount
(Augusta) – Maine’s Secretary of State says there is absolutely no evidence of ballot tampering as the ranked choice recount continues in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District. Republican Bruce Poliquin’s campaign says it has pictures of unlocked ballot storage containers and video of unsupervised absentee ballot processing in Bangor. Secretary of State Matt Dunlap says all the ballot containers have the tamper proof seals that are required. He said the GOP has not complained to his office – only the media. The count continues today after a full day during yesterday’s state holiday. Poliquin and Democrat Jared Golden were within 2-thousand votes of each other after initial returns, and neither had a majority as required under the new ranked-choice voting rules.
Dam Repair – Pond Returns
(Bar Harbor) – A fix to a stone dam in Bar Harbor has returned the water to Hamilton Pond. The Mt. Desert Islander reports the dam failed last February, bringing water levels down to the point it could no longer be used as a fire department water supply. The pond provides firefighting water for the Salisbury Cove area and serves as a popular ice skating and fishing area. The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife says it’s not sure what impact the water level drop had on fish.
C-O Exposure
(Hudson) – Firefighters pulled two people from a home in Hudson last night after they suffered serious effects of carbon monoxide poisoning. WABI-TV reports the call to the Hudson Road between Glenburn and Hudson came in around 7-o’clock last night. Glenburn’s fire chief said the house contained extremely high levels of the colorless and odorless gas. 9-1-1 dispatchers said both people were incoherent when they called State Police. It’s not clear what was producing the poisonous gas.
Missing Man
(Rangeley) – An elderly man who was driving from Rangeley to Connecticut has vanished, and police are asking the public to keep an eye out for him. Public safety officials in both Maine and Connecticut have issued a silver alert for 76-year old Robert Wetherbee. He was driving a blue pickup truck. It’s not the first time authorities have put out an alert for Wetherbee. Last year he was making a similar trip and didn’t arrive when expected. Someone found him asleep in his truck in Massachusetts.
