Body Recovered
(Jonesport) – Divers pulled up a 51-year old Jonesport fisherman’s body from waters off Doyle Island yesterday. The Coast Guard reports to Star 97.7 that it got a distress call from another fisherman who saw Scott Chandler fall into the waters yesterday morning. State Police and Warden Service divers recovered his body about 200-yards away after numerous agencies searched a 233-square mile area. The Coast Guard pulled Chandler’s boat to their station.
Video Arrest
(Bangor) – A 58-year old Hampden man faces 15-counts of invading privacy after police charged him with placing video recorders in staff bathrooms at a Bangor hospital. The Bangor Police Department reports to Star 97.7 the cameras David Waltz allegedly planted recorded a dozen people in the rest rooms. Waltz used to work at Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Child Porn Plea
(Bangor) – A Skowhegan man faces 5-to-20 years in prison for receiving and possessing child pornography. The US Attorney’s office reports to Star 97.7 that 50-year old Christopher Kruse pled guilty to the charges yesterday in Bangor federal court. Kruse used the internet to download the child porn pictures to add to a collection he’d kept on a personal computer since 2015. He’ll be sentenced later.
Moose Poach Sentence
(Bangor) – A moose poacher from New Brunswick will spend 30-days in jail. A federal judge sentenced 57-year old Daniel Dyer yesterday in Bangor. He pled guilty to guiding a hunter and illegally importing moose antlers and a hide to taxidermists in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Dyer instructed the hunter who was from West Virginia, to claim that another guide had shot the moose. Judge Jon Levy called the cover up even worse than the crime.
Wind Farm
(Otis) – A wind power developer wants the Town of Otis to vote on whether it wants wind turbines in town. Paul Fuller met with townspeople this week to give a preliminary plan of where to place the more than 500-foot tall turbines. He’s the same developer who placed the towers in nearby Clifton. Some in town call the wind towers an eyesore. Others say it will provide much needed tax revenue to the Hancock County community. Otis does not have an ordinance specific to wind towers.
Trail Races
(Orland/Sullivan) Two local land trusts are holding trail races at each of their preserves. The first race is Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust’s “Wildlands Trail Race” in Orland this Sunday. A week later, Frenchman Bay Conservancy is hosting the Autumn Trail Race in Sullivan on November 4th. Spokesman Austin Schuver says there are some incentives to get folks to run both races. These races are a part of the Downeast Conservation Trail Race Series, six races hosted by organizations that are working to preserve Downeast Maine’s natural environment.
Cancer Victim Shares Book
(Ellsworth) – A comedian who has written a book about his battle with cancer will sign copies at the Ellsworth Public Library tomorrow. Johnny Remick will meet with the public and sell his book “Quips, Quotes and Quosters”, with a portion of the sales going to the Mary Dow Center in Ellsworth. The session begins tomorrow evening at the library at 6PM.

- Class “C “ Boy Soccer game between George Stevens in Orono was halted after penalty kicks when it got too dark. They’ll start the game anew today.
- Volleyball semi-finals are today. Washington Academy hosts Woodland and Calais will host North Yarmouth.
