Plastic Bag Draft Ordinance-Panel Discussion
(Ellsworth) – An Environmental group is proposing a plastic bag ban in Ellsworth. The Ellsworth Green Plan Subcommittee will host a public forum on the proposed plastic bag ban draft ordinance Thursday morning 8 – 9:30 AM at Ellsworth City Hall. Several municipalities around Maine have passed plastic bag bans, hoping to cut down on the amount of plastic waste that ends up in ocean waters. Supporters hope the Ellsworth City Council will vote on a ban soon. Opponents say a ban could cost them thousands of dollars.
Grove Street Shooting
(Bangor) – A young Bangor police officer responded to a call of a domestic disturbance on Grove Street yesterday morning. An armed man came at him. Officer Dylan Hall ordered him to drop the weapon, and he didn’t. Hall shot the armed man, wounding but not killing him. Police tell Star 97.7 that wounded suspect is recovering at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. Hall, who grew up in Bucksport, is on administrative leave while the Attorney General’s office investigates.
Drug Sentence
(Bangor) – Another guilty plea from a Central Maine drug dealer. 30-year old Jamie Betances faces up to 20-years in prison and a million dollar fine for his role in a drug selling operation. The US Attorney’s office reports to Star 97.7 that Betances was part of an operation that would bring drugs from New York to Maine between June 2015 and March 2017.
Ambulance Proposal
(Ellsworth) – The new ambulance providing emergency services in Ellsworth and a few surrounding towns will operate from the Ellsworth Fire Station for now. The City Council voted this week on a 9-month pilot program to house the two ambulances for Northern Light Transport at the city hall fire station. EMTs will also live at the fire station while Ellsworth firefighters assist with responses. Northern Light took over emergency ambulance service in Ellsworth and a few surrounding towns after County Ambulance shut down September 1st.
