Lubec Fatal
(Lubec) – A motorcycle crash has left a 28-year old man dead in the Washington County town of Lubec. The Sheriff’s Department reports to Star 97.7 that Bradley Morrison was passing a line of vehicles on Route 189 when he slammed into a car that was turning onto the Maple Tree Road. The crash happened Saturday afternoon. The car’s driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and her husband was not hurt. Police continue to investigate the crash.
Dog Killed
(Winter Harbor) – The brutal death of a dog stolen from a Winter Harbor home has police searching for two burglary suspects. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department says there’s an arrest warrant for 37-year old Nathan Burke of Hancock and 22-year old Justin Chipman of Steuben and Winter Harbor. The pair allegedly broke into Phillip Torrey’s home while he was away attending a concert and stole his pug named Frankie. The dog’s body washed ashore at a home owned by District Attorney Matthew Foster who posts on his Facebook page that he intends to prosecute when police make an arrest.
Boat Fire Rescue
(Eastport) – A pair of aquaculture workers are OK after the Marine Patrol rescued them from a burning boat during the weekend. The Department of Marine Resources tells Star 97.7 that two men who work for Cooke Aquaculture were aboard the 40-foot lobster boat supplying feed for the salmon pens when it caught fire. Officer Brian Brodie was on routine patrol and spotted the pair in a life raft near Todd Head in Eastport and pulled them into his boat. He backed off while the Coast Guard took over. The burning boat was destroyed and driven into whirlpools between Deer Island Point and Dog Island.
Jumper
(Prospect) – Police say a man who jumped from the Penobscot Narrows Bridge caused a closure on Friday. State Police Lieutenant Rod Charette identified him only as a 79-year old man from Brooklin. The incident brought several police agencies to the scene and they closed down the bridge for a while Friday morning, tying up Labor Day Weekend traffic.
