Blue Hill Chase Ends
(Blue Hill) – A wild scene this weekend in Blue Hill as police fired shots into a car that led them on a chase through two counties. It started in Northport where police tried to stop 71-year old James Thomas of Camden. Knox County officials had reported Thomas was suffering from a medical issue. Twice officers had Thomas stopped, but he eluded officers and nearly struck a Belfast officer. Searsport and Bucksport police put down spike mats and flattened a tire, but the car drove on to Blue Hill where it stopped again and tried to elude officers. A Searsport officer fired into the cars tires and they finally got Thomas into custody and took him to the hospital. He faces a variety of charges.
Roads Closed
(Sullivan) – Road work will close down a couple of travel ways in Hancock County today. Town officials in Sullivan report the Flanders Pond Road will get a fresh coat of paving starting today. One lane will remain open during paving. In Trenton, the Goose Cove Road closes to through traffic today as contractors will perform work on the short cut on Route 230. Only local traffic is allowed during construction.
Dam Repair
(Bar Harbor) – The Town of Bar Harbor will spend $10-thousand dollars to help repair a dam that keeps a water reservoir in place for a fire pond in Salisbury Cove. The Mt. Desert Island Biological Laboratory owns the land and the dam. The fire department has a dry hydrant on the reservoir and uses the pond for large fires in that part of town. The Mt. Desert Islander reports the dam partially collapsed last winter, lowering the water level significantly.
BHHT & Flash in the Pans
(Blue Hill) The Flash in the Pans steel drum band performs each Monday during the summer and donates their profits to a local organization. Tonight the band performs at Blue Hill Town Park with proceeds going to Blue Hill Heritage Trust. Outreach director Chrissy Allen says they’ve got plans for the money. The rain venue is George Stevens Academy’s cafeteria.
Tidal Falls Revitalization
(Hancock) Frenchman Bay Conservancy has raised over $2-million-dollars to revitalize Tidal Falls Preserve in Hancock. Spokesman Austin Schuver says construction work begins tomorrow. A ground-breaking ceremony is planned this evening at 5 featuring live music and more information about the revitalization project.
Bank Robber’s Plea
(Ellsworth) A Kennebunk man accused of robbing an Ellsworth bank four years ago has entered a not guilty plea. Police believe 29-year-old Matthew Lemery held up the Key Bank on High Street in February 2014 when he was working in the area. Authorities arrested Lemery in April and he appeared in court last week.
Alleged Shooter-Court
(Cherryfield) – Authorities in Maine have waited about a year to extradite a New York City man back to the state to face murder charges. 38-year old Carine Reeves is accused of killing 55-year old Sally Shaw and dumping her body beside the road in Cherryfield a year ago last month. Reeves finally got tried and sentenced to 20-years in New York on an assault charge, freeing up the extradition in Maine. The court action for that takes place this week. Reeves and 20-year old Quaneysha Greely are accused in the killing. She’s expected to plead guilty to a lesser charge and testify against Reeves.
Gun Threat
(Warren) A Warren man was held at the Knox County Jail for allegedly threatening to shoot a woman and a neighbor who tired to help her. Village Soup-dot Com reports Shane Stockbridge is charged with 4 counts of Domestic Violence Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon, and several other crimes. Police reports say Stockbridge pointed a gun at the woman’s face and threatened her in July. When neighbors tried to intervene Stockbridge allegedly fired the gun in the air several times. The victim got a protection order against him but said she did not go to police because she feared for her life.
Bridge Party Busted
(Hollis) State police broke up a drinking party in Hollis after receiving a complaint about suspicious activity. Troopers responded to the Salmon Falls Bridge on Route 202 Thursday night. While questioning 2 individuals, police were approached by a group of about 8 demanding their friends be let go. The group was advised to leave but police say that they refused. Buxton police assisted in arresting 21-year-old Jeremiah Baker of Westbrook and 18-year-old Owen Chamberlain of Lewiston. A 16-year old was also charged with illegal possession of alcohol.
