From Bar Harbor Airport Manager Bradley Madeira:
PenAir to cease operations at the Hancock County – Bar Harbor Airport after May 31, 2018
TRENTON, ME- May 30, 2018: PenAir has advised that they are suspending all of their east coast operations effective following the completion of their last scheduled departure on 5/31 one full month before the end of their contract period with both the US Department of Transportation and the County of Hancock. PenAir officials have told us that the reason for the decision was due to their mechanics and pilots reaching critically low staffing levels. PenAir is advising their customers who are currently holding reservations for travel dates after May 31, 2018 to contact PenAir reservations at 800-448-4226 for full refunds.
Today we looked into other options to provide additional temporary service in June to offset the loss of service with PenAir but unfortunately, there is simply not enough time to coordinate that service with another air carrier and with the US DOT before it is needed.
While this news is disappointing for us and more importantly for our customers who are affected by it, the public continues to be well served here by Cape Air (www.capeair.com), and will soon be served by Silver Airways (www.silverairways.com) as well with new service starting on July 1st! We are looking forward to a successful summer and we hope that you will continue to fly in and out of our facility where you will find convenience, competitive fares, and exceptional customer service!
Sincerely,
Bradley C. Madeira
