Deputy Killed
(Norridgewock) – An armed cop killer remains at large after he allegedly killed a Somerset County Deputy Sheriff. Dead is 62-year old Corporal Eugene Cole. Police have issued a nationwide alert for 29-year old John Williams of Madison. Sheriff Dale Lancaster urged the public to stay vigilant overnight. Police say Williams stole Cole’s cruiser after the overnight shooting, robbed a Norridgewock convenience store, then ditched the car and vanished.
Sorrento First Responders
(Sorrento) – Town officials in Sorrento are looking for solutions after the town’s first responder program has folded. The Sorrento Fire Department posted on its Facebook Page that a shortage of EMTs has force them to surrender their state license. First responders get to the scene while an ambulance is on its way to help stabilize patients until advanced medical treatment can arrive. The fire department says it will still respond to fire calls.
River Mishap
(Auburn) The search for a 5-year-old boy who fell into the Androscoggin River Tuesday evening is now a recovery mission. Two brothers were playing along the river near Main Street when the boy fell in. His 9-year-old brother is in critical condition after trying to save him. Auburn firefighters rescued the older boy who was flown to a Portland hospital. Dive teams returned to the river Wednesday.
Firearm Sentence
(Milford) A Milford man will spend 7-&-a-half years in prison for stealing guns from a licensed firearms dealer and for being a felon in possession of a firearm. 40-year old Travis Stinson must also pay over $36-hundred-dollars in restitution for the October 2016 incident. Court documents say Stinson and an accomplice stole guns from a Bangor pawn shop in exchange for heroin. He pleaded guilty last July and was sentenced in US District Court in Bangor on Wednesday.
Shrine Circus
(Bangor) The Anah Shrine Circus comes to Bangor this weekend. Local Shriner Jesse Thomas says the Circus is a fundraiser and a means of bringing public awareness to their organization. The Circus runs tomorrow thru Sunday at the Cross Center in Bangor.
Keg Hunt
(Ellsworth) Registration is open for the 3rd annual Great Golden Keg Hunt – a team-based scavenger hunt through downtown Ellsworth. Union Square board member Patricia Patterson King says 3 golden kegs will be hidden somewhere in the city. The grand prize is worth over a thousand dollars. The Keg Hunt starts at 2pm on May 5th from The Grand Theater on Main Street. Register online at: Union Square M E dot Org.
Attempted Burglary
(Surry) The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is trying to figure out who attempted to burglarize the Surry Elementary School and why. A custodian at the school contacted police Tuesday evening after the suspect tried to open a garage door but then realized the custodian was on site and fled the scene. The incident is under investigation.
Firearm Felony
(Portland) – A 34-year old Dresden felon will spend more than 4-years in federal prison for possessing a firearm. The US Attorney’s office tells Star 97.7 that Michael Burns pled guilty to the charge last November. He admitted to attempting to strangle his girlfriend and then grabbing a loaded rifle and threatening to commit suicide in front of her and her child. He has numerous felony convictions and could not possess a gun.
