Abuse Murder
(Stockton Springs) – A horrifying picture of a 10-year old girl’s life that ended Sunday in Stockton Springs. A police affidavit filed in the arrest of Marissa Kennedy’s parents showed the couple allegedly abused the girl for months. They would make her kneel on a tile floor and hold her hands up while they beat her with a belt, and then a mop handle. They would lock her in a closet while she screamed. The Bangor Daily News reports the parents concocted a story Sunday about the child falling in their basement and waited 3-hours before they called an ambulance. Sharon and Julio Carrillo are charged with murder. They’re due in court today.
Drug Sentence
(Bangor) – A 28-year old Bangor man who went by the street name of Queezo will spend 20-months in prison for selling drugs. The US Attorney’s Office tells Star 97.7 that Quindell Smallwood sold crack, heroin, and oxycodone in Bangor between 2013 and 2015. He obtained the drugs from out of state, brought them to Maine, and sold them to drug customers. His supplier from The Bronx is spending 18-years in prison.
Child Porn
(Bangor) – A 22-year old Aroostook County man faces up to 20-years in prison and a quarter million dollar fine after pleading guilty to possessing child porn. The US Attorney’s office tells Star 97.7 that Ryan Card entered the guilty plea yesterday. Investigators found images on Card’s cell phone. At least one of the images showed a child under 12-years old. A judge will sentence Card later after the US Probation Office conducts an investigation.
Bowdoinham Death
(Bowdoinham) – State police are investigating a Bowdoinham woman’s death. Spokesman Steve McCausland tells Star 97.7 that first responders found 55-year old Beulah Marie Sylvester unresponsive inside her mobile home. She died at Maine Medical Center. Detectives have deemed the death suspicious and have searched the trailer and the property outside for clues. The medical examiner conducted an autopsy yesterday. McCausland said the public is not in danger.
School Threat
(Rockland) – School is open in Rockland today as normal after authorities investigated a possible shooter threat at the Oceanside Middle School yesterday. Knox County Chief Deputy Tim Carroll tells Star 97.7 a student reported overhearing another student say he was going to shoot up the school. The same student told school officials the student who made the threat also threatened him too if he said anything. Police talked with the suspect and determined he had no means to carry out the threat and it was just trash talking. The juvenile is charged with terrorizing and tampering with a witness.
Pole Replacement
(Ellsworth) Crews will soon pour the foundation for a new permanent traffic light pole at the High Street intersection of First National Bank and the Maine Coast Mall in Ellsworth. The original pole collapsed last year when an elderly man suffered a medical incident and crashed into it. The temporary replacement pole will remain in place until crews put up the permanent mast arm at a later date. Ellsworth city officials say the foundation work Thursday morning should not affect traffic on High Street.
Robbery & Assault Arrests
(Knox) A man from Knox met a woman on Facebook and invited her to his home. Instead 3 women and 2 men showed up at his place Monday. The two men allegedly assaulted the victim while the women stole his marijuana. The suspects fled in a car and were pulled over later and interviewed. Jessica Morrill and Courtney Morrill of Woodstock and a Massachusetts woman are charged with Robbery. Billy Knights of Oxford and Stephen Mickeriz of Harrison face Robbery and Assault charges.

(Blue Hill) This weekend Blue Hill Heritage Trust is celebrating the rich history of maple syruping in Maine. Outreach director Chrissy Allen says the presentation at the Blue Hill Public Library is Saturday afternoon at 1:30. Then on Sunday it’s the 3rd annual Tree Tapping and Maple Sugaring Workshop. (Ellsworth) The Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce hopes to tantalize taste buds and usher people into local restaurants with their March Dine Around promotion.
