Medical Plane Crash
(Presque Isle) – A plane crash in Aroostook County, but all on board survived. WABI-TV reports a medical transport plane carrying a paramedic, nurse and patient took off from the airport shortly before 7-o’clock last night, but the engine caught fire. The pilot turned around and tried to land, but the engine quit and the plane came down short of the runway. It’s believed everyone on board suffered only minor injuries. The Aroostook Medical Center charters the plane for transport to higher level hospitals in Portland and Bangor.
Machias -Thanksgiving meals
(Machias) Folks in the Machias area who plan to dine out for Thanksgiving can enjoy a warm meal at a local restaurant while helping a worthy cause. Centre Street Congregational Church pastor Susie Maxwell, who’s also the director of the Machias Food Pantry says bring your appetite to Main Street today. The University of Maine at Machias serves the next Downeast Feast today. Maxwell says everyone is invited to the community pot luck dinner. The Downeast Feast happens on the fourth Thursday each month, but the location varies. Contact the Machias Food Pantry for more information.
Woodlawn Museum
(Ellsworth) The Woodlawn Museum in Ellsworth is closed this month, but executive director Joshua Torrance says there’s still a lot of activity happening on the property in advance of December’s Christmas events. Find the list of holiday events online at: Woodlawn Museum dot Com.
Marc Blanchette’s Meal
(Ellsworth) Not everyone will dig into a turkey or have minced meat pie today. Ellsworth resident Marc Blanchette tells Star 97-7 after switching to an all plant-based diet for health reasons, he’s learned there’s more to holiday meals than meat. Blanchette recommends vegan orange chicken, wilted greens tofu quiche, and says there are many wonderful chili recipes online.

Experts recommend using different passwords for frequently visited websites. If you’re using a mobile device to shop be sure its security software is up-to-date. Pay with a credit card, not a debit card, as federal law governs credit card companies offer more protection than laws that govern debit card purchases. Be aware that pop-up ads offering big discounts could be phishing attempts. And only shop from legitimate websites, you’ll see a padlock symbol in your browser indicating its secure. Harrington Crash
(Harrington) Police say none of the 14 people in a van that crashed in Harrington yesterday wore seatbelts. The van from North Carolina carried workers when it hit a patch of ice and veered off Route 1 just after 5:30 yesterday morning. Several occupants thrown from the van and went to hospitals in Machias and Ellsworth. There’s no word on the extent of their injuries.
Thanksgiving-Home Fires
(Local) Thanksgiving is known for many things like turkey, family gatherings and football. But unfortunately Thanksgiving is also the leading day for home fires, the majority caused by cooking incidents. Fire officials say never leaving your stove or oven unattended and use a timer. Keep children 3-feet away from the stove and turn pot handles inward. If you encounter a stove-top fire put a lid on it then turn off the heat. Wear short sleeves or tight-fitting sleeves when cooking. Run cool water over burns, but for more serious burns call 9-1-1. And remember to stop, drop, cover and roll if clothing ignites.
Ferry Terminal Vote
(Bar Harbor) – Bar Harbor voters have a $3-and-a-half million dollar question to settle next June. The town council has voted unanimously to ask voters to pass a bond question to purchase the former Bluenose ferry terminal from the State of Maine. Just what the town would do with the terminal is the subject of heated debate. The terminal was vacated in 2009 by Bay Ferries Limited which has recently expressed interest in renewing ferry serve between Bar Harbor and Yarmouth Nova Scotia.
Accident Charges
(Brewer) Brewer police have located and charged the man who allegedly left the scene of an accident on Tuesday. Police responded to Summer Street near the Wilson Street intersection where a car hit a utility pole, struck a house then fled. Crash witnesses told police a young girl was yelling for help as the vehicle drove away. Power lines were brought down and a parked vehicle was damaged by the fallen pole. A motorist drove through the downed lines got caught but was safely removed by Emera Maine workers. While police were on scene the car in question was reported stolen by its owner. A Penobscot County Sheriff’s deputy located the suspect vehicle and driver. 35-year-old Aaron Spinney of Brewer is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving with an expired registration, driving to endanger, false registration, false report of vehicle theft, failure to provide proof of insurance, and endangering the welfare of a child.
