HCRCC Director Resigns
(Ellsworth) – The woman who has headed up the 9-1-1 agency in Hancock County for more than 8-years is calling it quits. Renee Wellman confirms to Star 97-7 she has submitted her resignation to County Commissioners effective December 8th. Wellman has headed up the Hancock County Regional Communications Center and has been a strong advocate for emergency dispatchers who are often stretched thin and underpaid. She says she’s taking a job in the private sector.
Blue Hill Treasurer Resigns
(Blue Hill) The town treasurer in Blue Hill is out and there’s money missing from town accounts. Selectman Jim Schatz tells Star 97-7 that Jody Murphy no longer works for the town of Blue Hill. Schatz did not say whether the discrepancies in deposits are related to Murphy’s resignation. But he does say the investigation is on-going and the town will soon place an ad to hire a new treasurer.
Burlington Fire
(Burlington) – An early morning fire in Burlington sent one person to the hospital. WABI-TV reports the victim’s injuries are not considered life threatening. A helicopter flew the woman to a Portland hospital. Firefighters responded to the Sibley Road at about 5-o’clock yesterday morning. The fire marshal’s office is investigating.
Getchell Agency
(Bangor) – A Bangor based agency that provides services and bills the Department of Health and Human Services for more than $10-million dollars a year says the state agency is trying to put them out of business. WVII-TV reports the Getchell Agency filed for bankruptcy protection a year ago. Getchell provides services to state clients who suffer from mental disabilities. The state alleges Getchell billed them for services they didn’t provide. Agency owner Rena Getchell says the state is just trying to shut her down.
Car Dealer Thefts
(Searsport) – Police say they’ve solved the theft of four cars from a Searsport car dealership. Bangor police arrested 30-year old Todd Whitman and 28-year old Cody Fairless for stealing cars from two dealerships in that city in October. The M-O used in those thefts rang a bell with Searsport’s police chief, and the pair is now accused of breaking in a window at Greg’s Auto Sales, swiping keys to cars in the lot and stealing four of them. Authorities have recovered the vehicles undamaged.
Rockland Waterfront Death
(Rockland) – A 37-year old man who apparently slept in a shipping container along the Rockland waterfront has died inside the container. The medical examiner’s office is investigating, but authorities say Adam Purington of Gardiner may have fallen victim to carbon monoxide from a forklift running in the container. Village Soup dot-com reports Purington apparently slept off and on in the container that belongs to the company for whom he worked loading fish.
Missing Man
(W. Bath) Twenty game wardens, several K9 units and many volunteers tried yesterday to find a 70-year-old West Bath man missing since last Friday. A neighbor reported last seeing Edward Barrett walking on the Beaver Brook Road that morning. Barrett was wearing khaki pants but may have been shirtless according to reports. Searchers including members of West Bath Fire and the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office continue looking for Barrett, who’s described as 6-foot-1, weighing 190-pounds with blue eyes and blond-white hair.
Holiday Marketplace
(Ellsworth) It was a bustling opening weekend for the holiday marketplace in downtown Ellsworth. Heart of Ellsworth executive director Cara Romano says in addition to the unique merchandise offered by local vendors, another draw to the old J&B Atlantic building is a special raffle prize. Pedestrian Fatality Record
(Maine) It’s the worst year for pedestrian fatalities in Maine since 1994. The Maine Department of Transportation reports 18 pedestrians have died so far this year, exceeding last year’s 17 deaths. The Bangor Daily News reports November and December are statistically the deadliest months of the year for pedestrians as days grow darker earlier and visibility worsens.
Child w/ Cancer Dies
(Portland) A 9-year-old boy from Maine who suffered from cancer has died after his wish for a final Christmas celebration was fulfilled. Jacob Thompson’s family used social media Monday to announce that he passed away Sunday. His family thanked those who sent Christmas cards and prayers, saying it gave joy to Jacob and optimism to his family.
Deputy Verdict
(Augusta) A mistrial has been declared in the case of a onetime “Deputy of the Year” charged with sexually abusing three girls in Maine. Jurors in Kennebec County acquitted Kenneth Hatch of Whitefield of two felony counts but deadlocked Monday on the remaining 20 other felony counts, resulting in the mistrial. Court documents say the alleged abuse of one girl started when she was 6 years old. The others were 14 or 15.

- Former Patriots’ wide receiver Terry Glenn died in an automobile accident in Texas. Glenn played 6-seasons for New England. He was 43.
