Police Chief
(Pittsfield) – The former police chief in Ellsworth is the new chief of Pittsfield’s tiny police department. The Ellsworth American reports town councilors in Pittsfield unanimously picked Harold “Pete” Bickmore to lead the police force. Bickmore has an impressive resume, including 25-years with the FBI. He resigned from the Ellsworth Police Department after just under a year on the job following a reprimand from the city manager for divulging confidential information about an officer to a member of the public.
Duck Brook Bridge
(Bar Harbor) – Acadia National Park will close the Duck Brook Bridge next Tuesday morning. The Park reports to Star 97-7 they’re working to replace cap stones on part of the bridge to prevent other stones from sliding out of place. Workers removed the stones earlier in the summer, but a crane is needed Tuesday to reset two of the stones. The closing will run from 6am to 8am. The park plans to close the bridge in a few weeks to reset additional stones in the 88-year old bridge.
Auburn Fatal
(Auburn) – State Police have identified a woman who died when she rear ended a truck in Auburn after a trooper clocked her driving nearly 100-miles an hour. 41-year old Amie Wells of Green died instantly in the crash at a red light on Tuesday night. State Police Sergeant Tom Pappas had just turned on his cruiser’s blue lights to try to stop Wells when she hit the truck that was stopped at a red light. The crash did not injure the truck driver.
Falmouth Fatal
(Falmouth) – A North Yarmouth man is dead after a two car crash on Interstate 295 in Falmouth. Police say Joshua Martin’s car was struck from behind while traffic slowed for another crash a short distance away. A 17-year old West Bath driver ran into Martin’s car, killing him. Police and DOT workers had to re-route traffic on the busy road for hours.
Flood Cars
(Augusta) – Buyer Beware! That’s the message from Maine’s Attorney General and Secretary of State as up to a million flood damaged cars hit the market. In a press release sent to Star 97-7, Attorney General Janet Mills says there are protections in place to help consumers in Maine identify flood damaged cars. She and Secretary of State Matt Dunlap say cars by the truckload have left Florida and Texas with flood damage, and yet will not get labeled as such.
Motorcycle Crash Correction
(Augusta) – State police have issued a correction about a crash that killed two motorcyclists during the annual United Bikers of Maine toy run a couple of weeks ago. Investigators now say it appears 35-year old Aaron White-Sevigny of Windsor was the biker who swerved in front of the truck that hit him and several other bikes in a chain reaction crash. White-Sevigny and Jamie Gross of Belmont died in the crash on Interstate 95.
Suspicious Van
(Thomaston) – A second incident in mid-coast Maine of a man in a van trying to pick up young children from the street. Village Soup dot-com reports a Thomaston youngster riding a bike to school reported that a man in a white van stopped him and asked him to get into the van. The youngster refused and reported the incident to school authorities. Earlier this week a similar van reportedly stopped a youngster walking home from school in Owl’s Head and tried to get her to enter the van. She ran off and hid in bushes until the van left.
Star Party
(Bar Harbor) As part of the 9th annual Acadia Night Sky Festival, Acadia National Park will host the Star Party on Cadillac Mountain. Public affairs specialist Christie Anastasia says they’ll close the road going up to Cadillac Mountain during this Saturday’s special event. A free “shuttle to the stars” departs from Mount Desert Island high school beginning at 7:30 Saturday night and will make several runs from the school to the Star Party. - Chris Sale struck out 13-Orioles over 8-innings, becoming the first pitcher since Pedro Martinez to strike out 300-batters in a season. Sox beat the Orioles 9-0, and maintain their 3-game lead over the Yankees.
- The Red Sox have clinched a playoff spot as the Angels lost to Cleveland last night. Boston is off tonight.
- The Patriots will have D’onte Hightower and Danny Amendola back as they take on the Houston Texans on Sunday.
