Homicide Arrests
(Cherryfield) – When police bring two New York City residents back to Maine, they’ll face murder charges in connection with last week’s death of a traveling nurse whose body turned up alongside a road in Cherryfield. State Police spokesman Steve McCausland reports to Star 97.7 that detectives from Maine helped coordinate yesterday’s arrests of 37-year old Carine Reeves and 19-year old Quaneysha Greeley in New York. They’re still not saying how 55-year old Sally Shaw died or what led them to the two alleged killers. A motorist found Shaw’s body a week ago Wednesday morning on Route 193. The car she rented was 15-miles away at the intersection Route 9 and 193.
Nemo’s Suit
(Tremont) – A Tremont couple whose restaurant burned several years ago is suing the town and several others again. The Mt. Desert Islander, which is one of the defendants, reports Robert and Judy Cousins have sued in state court after the town issued a stop work order when they found the concrete slab for the new restaurant was too close to the property line. The Cousinses sued the town and firefighters in federal court, claiming the fire department intentionally let the restaurant burn. A federal judge has tossed out most of the counts in that suit.
Truck Death
(Clayton Lake) – An East Winthrop man is dead after his own pickup truck ran over him as he was unpacking to go camping. WABI-TV reports 74-year old Bruce Morang got out of the truck and it started to roll backward, dragging him to the ground and eventually underneath the truck, which caught fire when a cigarette ignited oxygen tanks inside the vehicle.
Edinburg Fire
(Edinburg) – No injuries but a house and garage are destroyed after a fire last evening in Edinburgh. WVII-TV reports firefighters from a half dozen departments responded to the 6:30 PM blaze. Firefighters had to use a ladder truck from Old Town to remove part of the home’s metal roof to reach the flames. A family cat hid in the garage but firefighters found it and administered first aid. No word yet on a cause, but the fire appears to have started in the kitchen.

(Hollis) A creepy clown prank in York County landed a Hollis man behind bars. Police got calls around 6 o’clock Tuesday night reporting a man in a clown mask carrying a machete was seen near Little Mart on Plains Road in Hollis. WCSH reports state troopers located the suspect an hour later as he came out of the woods on Townhouse Road in Waterboro.
