Boaters Dead
(Fort Fairfield) – Game Wardens say three Fort Fairfield men are likely dead after their 12-foot motor boat capsized in Square Lake. One other fisherman made it to shore alive. Wardens recovered 56-year old Martin Chambers’ body from the lake yesterday. His brother Mark and 43-year old Eric Sherwood remain missing and presumed drowned. The men clung to their overturned boat in 58-degree water beginning at 4:00 Tuesday afternoon. 23-year old Charles Guimond who wore a life jacket, was able to get to shore. None of the other men wore life jackets.
Tremont Cop
(Tremont) – An island wide police department for Mt. Desert island is back under discussion after Southwest Harbor declines a request to provide police service to Tremont. The other two towns on MDI have already combined police forces. The Mt. Desert Islander reports Southwest Harbor Selectmen balked at offering to provide coverage in Tremont, which currently gets a 30-hour a week patrol from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department. Southwest Harbor said an offer made last year did not fully cover the cost to provide Tremont’s coverage.
Hope Woman Indicted
(Rockland) – A 34-year old Hope woman faces manslaughter charges after a grand jury indicted her in connection with a double fatal accident last January. Prosecutors say Danielle Ward was driving under the influence of some substance when her vehicle crossed to the wrong side of Route 1 in Woolwich and struck an elderly couple’s car. They died. Ward had six children in her vehicle, and they suffered numerous injuries. Ward has an extensive driving infraction record.

(Castine) Summertime means trees are in full foliage. Blue Hill Heritage Trust’s outreach director Chrissy Allen says an informative and enjoyable walk and talk is planned for this Saturday morning at 10 in Castine.
Arson Arrest
(Skowhegan) Authorities have charged a 15-year-old Skowhegan boy in connection with 4 car fires early Monday morning. The fire marshal’s office arrested the teen at his home Tuesday afternoon. Investigators say the boy allegedly lit combustible materials inside the four vehicles in the Family Circle housing complex on West Front Street around 4AM. The fires completely destroyed two vehicles and badly damaged the other two. A search of the boy’s home revealed a set of keys under his pillow. He’s charged with one count of arson and burglary.
Criminal Speeding
(Sidney) A New Jersey man driving nearly 70 miles an hour OVER the speed limit on I-95 in Sidney Maine pleaded guilty to criminal speeding. Maine State Police conducting an aircraft speed enforcement detail last week spotted a vehicle traveling 130 miles per hour in the northbound lane. The car slowed rapidly upon spotting a cruiser then pulled over when he saw the flashing lights. 64-year-old Sang Yook admitted to speeding, faced a judge the next day, spent 48 hours in jail, and paid a $300 fine.

(Hancock County) A deputy at the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department celebrates 25 years of serving and protecting our community. Deputy Corey Bagley is praised by the department for his time, commitment and dedication, plus the many sacrifices made by he and his family.
Drugs & Guns Sentence
(Buxton) A judge has sentenced a Buxton man to 20 years in prison for selling drugs and stolen guns from November 2012 through November 2014. Court records say 57-year-old Dale Pinkham conspired with family members and others to fetch heroin from Massachusetts and sell it in Maine. Several searches of Pinkham’s home turned up heroin and numerous stolen firearms. While in jail Pinkham directed family and co-conspirators to locate and threaten suspected government witnesses. Pinkham was also found guilty of attempted witness tampering. Three others involved in the conspiracy were sentenced last year.

(Ellsworth) Families First Community Center continues to raise money for their house renovation fund. A Sip ‘n’ Swirl is planned for June 21st at 6PM at China Hill in Ellsworth. A portion of your $35 ticket goes toward FFCC’s project to help homeless families with minor children in Hancock County.
