Steuben School
(Steuben) – A half million dollar renovation loan and grant should help improve the 67-year old school in Steuben. One of the biggest problems is with the gym where mold and water infiltration could make the facility unusable in the near future. The Ellsworth American reports engineers have identified where the problem is coming from. Voters will be asked to approve nearly $400-thousand dollars in loans for the project, and $170-thousand from the state would not have to be repaid.
Hodgdon Robbery
(Houlton) – A 46-year old Aroostook County man is back in jail after deputies lured him to a bowling alley in Hodgdon. Sheriff Darrell Crandall tells Star 97.7 Brady Bridges has a 26-year long record including robbery and drugs, and they’d been looking for him for a robbery in Hodgdon. The Sheriff says Bridges beat a man with his fists and accompanied him to a bank to withdraw cash. Bridges and the victim knew each other. Crandall says police in Pennsylvania wanted Bridges for a drug related crime.
Lobster Pound Auctioned
(Lincolnville) – A couple who owns numerous motels and restaurants across Maine, including several in Bar Harbor, has purchased the Lobster Pound Restaurant in Lincolnville at auction. The 260-seat restaurant went up for bid this week after the former owners filed for bankruptcy. Danny and Carla Lafayette offered more than $700-thousand dollars for the facility located on Lincolnville Beach next to the Islesboro ferry terminal.
Coke & Heroin
(Paris) Two men from Brooklyn New York are behind bars in connection with selling heroin and cocaine in South Paris Maine. The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency reports 36-year-old Dennis Roman and 24-year-old Jose Rivera were arrested Tuesday for drug trafficking. Rivera is also charged with violating bail conditions. Drug agents had been monitoring drug activity in the Oxford Hills region. During the arrests they seized prepackaged coke and heroin worth 5-thousand-dollars, scales, packaging materials, and 25-hundred dollars in cash. Both men are in the Oxford County Jail and more arrests are expected.
Meth Lab Fire
(Passadumkeag) The Fire Marshal’s office is awaiting test results to determine if a fire in Passadumkeag Saturday night was caused by a meth lab. WABI-TV reports the mobile home on Union Street was destroyed and one man was taken to the hospital with burns.
Dead Husband-Missing Wife
(Arundel) – An Arundel woman who suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease remains missing. Police are searching for her as they investigate her husband’s death. Relatives found 63-year old Matthew Coito this week. His 65-year old wife Sue Kim was last seen last weekend. They’ve been searching woods around the couple’s home, and released a fuzzy picture on the State Police Facebook page.
Child Porn
(Benton) A search of a Benton man’s computer landed the 30-year-old in jail on child pornography charges. The State Police Computer Crimes Unit charged Joseph Hood yesterday and took him to the Kennebec County Jail for having thousands of images on his computer. Bail was set at $750 cash and conditions include having no contact with anyone under the age of 16 and he can’t use computers or data storage devices.
Collins-Colonoscopy
(Portland) Maine Sen. Susan Collins is among a group of senators that wants to make sure senior citizens aren’t charged with unexpected bills after a colonoscopy. Collins, a Republican, is introducing federal legislation that is designed to protect seniors from out-of-pocket costs for preventative colonoscopies.

(Augusta) – Governor Paul LePage says Maine has reached a new, all-time, high in the number of private sector payroll jobs within the state. New statistics from the Maine Department of Labor show Maine has gained back all private sector jobs lost during the last recession – and reached a historic high. The data also shows the number of people unemployed, under-employed, or no longer looking for work is now at its lowest level in more than a decade.

The U-Maine women play for the America East championship today against Albany. This afternoon’s game is a rematch of last-year’s championship game which Albany won by a point. The winner gets into the NCAA tourney.

Red Sox beat the Team USA in exhibition play 7-to-5.
Lots of football moves – the Texans trade quarterback Brock Ostweiler to Cleveland for a draft pick. The Bears release quarterback Jay Cutler.
And the Sheriff’s Cup basketball tournament starts this afternoon in Ellsworth – featuring middle school teams from across Maine competing through Sunday.
