Lobster Pound Sold
(Lamoine) – A lobsterman’s union has agreed to purchase a Lamoine lobster pound in order to keep more money from lobster sales. Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound’s wholesale side currently operates the pound at the end of Seal Point Road. The Portland Press Herald reports the Maine Lobstering Union voted nearly unanimously this weekend to pay $4- million dollars for the facility. Warren Pettegrow, whose family has owned the business for several generations, will remain on as the facility manager. The family will continue to own the retail side of the business – a restaurant on Route 3 in Trenton.
Abandoned Boat Search
(Lamoine) – A Coast Guard search in Frenchman Bay is called off after they failed to turn up anyone in peril. The call came in Saturday evening that an abandoned 12-foot boat was found adrift in Raccoon Cove off Lamoine. The Coast Guard sent helicopters to the area Sunday morning and they conducted a grid search, called off at about 10-o’clock in the morning. They did not find the boat, or anyone in peril.
Credit Union – Card Breach
(Belfast) – A breach and / or a credit card skimmer at a Belfast Credit Union has police and bank officials scrambling to cut losses. Downeast Credit Union started getting calls about unauthorized credit card charges Saturday afternoon. Many of them were in the New York area. The Bangor Daily News reports police found a skimmer installed at the credit union’s ATM. The credit union estimates about $10-thousand dollars in unauthorized charges on member credit cards. They’re urging members to check their accounts and to report any unauthorized purchases.
Police Chief
(Ellsworth) The new police chief of Ellsworth begins his first full week on the job. Chief Glenn Moshier was appointed to Chief a couple of weeks ago, pending approval by the City Council which took place at their meeting Friday. Moshier says becoming Chief was always on his To Do List. Moshier says he doesn’t anticipate any major changes in the near future at the Ellsworth Police Department. He says he hopes to encourage his officers to do more community outreach.
Sex Crime
(Searsmont) A registered sex offender from Searsmont is back in jail for Unlawful Sexual Touching. The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office reports to Star 97-7 they received a complaint last Wednesday that 69-year-old Glenn Reed touched a young girl in an inappropriate manner in a vehicle earlier that day. After conducting interviews and gathering evidence, deputies arrested Reed at his home and transported him to the Waldo County Correctional Center. He’s being held without bail until his arraignment and he’s also charged with violating probation.
Girls On The Run
(Ellsworth) Registration is open for the spring season of Girls on the Run in Ellsworth. Lead coach Kim Formby says the national program for girls in 3rd to 5th grade aims to boost self-esteem. The program runs March 20th thru June 8th on Monday and Thursday afternoons from 4 to 5:30 at the Downeast Family YMCA.
Hammer Threat
(Bangor) A Bangor woman is in jail for threatening a motel manager while wielding a hammer. Sgt Tim Cotton tells the Bangor Daily News 45-year-old Pamela Morin was charged with Criminal Mischief, Violating Bail Conditions, and Criminal Threatening. Morin was upset with management at the Riverview Motel on State Street and allegedly carried a hammer and made threats to kill the manager earlier this month. She faces up to 5-years in prison and a 5-thousand-dollar fine for the felony crime of Criminal Threatening.
