From the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency:
“As the result of a collaborative effort between the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, a Brooklyn, Connecticut man and a New Bedford, Mass man have been charged with felony drug trafficking offenses following an investigation into the sale of heroin and crack cocaine throughout Washington County.
As part of joint investigation into the growing presence of out of state drug traffickers selling heroin and “crack” cocaine in Washington County, deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and investigators with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency executed two (2) search warrants last night (2/14/17) in Washington County. The search warrants were obtained for a residence located at 1369 County Rd. in Trescott and for 54 Middle Street in Whitneyville. Both warrants were obtained following an investigation which included the undercover purchase of heroin and/or crack cocaine from individuals at both locations. Evidence of drug trafficking was seized during the search of both of these residences.
As a result of this investigation, the following individuals have been charged thus far:
1. Rafael Santiago- 18 YOA of Brooklyn, CT has been charged with Class B Trafficking in Schedule W drugs (heroin and crack). Bail has been set by a bail commissioner at $1500 cash.
2. Marco Serrano- 23 YOA of New Bedford, MA has been charged with Class B Trafficking in Schedule W drugs (crack). Bail has been set by a bail commissioner at $1500 cash.
Both were transported to the Washington County Jail where they booked on the above charges. Both are expected to make an initial appearance in court later this afternoon. Arrest photos are available from the jail.
Following the arrests, Sheriff Barry Curtis stated: “the end result of this investigation shows what we can accomplish by agencies working together. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is committed to stopping the influx of this poison into our County and we will continue to work with, and support, the efforts of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.”
Assisting the MDEA and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in this investigation were the Pleasant Point Police Department and the Maine State Police. This investigation is continuing and more arrests are likely.
