Drug Dealer/Killer Sentenced
(Bangor) – A 25-year old from Western Maine who shot and killed a man trying to rob him will spend 13-years in prison. The US Attorney’s office reports to Star 97.7 that Jordan Richard of New Vineyard was also a drug dealer who conspired to sell cocaine, heroin, fentanyl and Oxycodone. In July of 2016 he shot and killed one of two men who came to his home in Rangeley to rob him. Investigators found drugs, money and a handgun in his residence when they looked into the fatal shooting. US Attorney Halsey Frank said one man is dead, another spending more than a decade in prison. He said his office intends to do what they can to get guns out of the hands of drug dealers.
Murder Plot
(Machias) – A grand jury says there’s enough evidence take a Washington County man to trial for allegedly trying to kill a Blue Hill woman. Prosecutors say 33-year old Robert Boggia attempted to arrange for her death while he was in prison. Boggia is also suspected of burning down the woman’s home 3-years ago in Blue Hill. Investigators initially determined the fire was due to an overheated wood stove. If convicted, Boggia faces up to an additional 30-years in prison.
COA Building
(Bar Harbor) – Construction starts right off on a new, $13-million dollar building at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor. The academic facility will house science labs, faculty offices and a lecture hall. It’s the first new academic building on the Bar Harbor campus since the 1980s. The school tells Star 97.7 the new building will be extremely energy efficient. COA was named the nation’s top “green college” by the Princeton Review. The new building should be done construction by 2020.
Dog Casting Call
(Ellsworth) The Grand Theater is looking for a dog or two to play the role of Toto in their upcoming performance of The Wizard of Oz. Play director Leslie Michaud tells Star 97-7 that the dogs chosen for the part will go through a rigorous training schedule to prepare. Michaud hopes to cast more than one dog to share the workload of 10 performances. Toto auditions are February 11th at The Grand in Ellsworth.
Deer Isle Vote
(Deer Isle) – There’s no immediate word this morning on what the vote outcome was in Deer Isle & Stonington yesterday regarding the future of the high school serving the two towns. About 100-students attend classes at Deer Isle/Stonington High School. Yesterday, residents cast advisory votes on whether to keep the school open or to send students to other schools and pay tuition. A second vote asked if the high school stays open, should classes be held at the elementary school while keeping the gym and industrial arts wings open.
