Murder Trial Begins
(Bangor) – A South Carolina man goes on trial today for murder. Christopher Murray is accused of shooting Millinocket resident Wayne LaPierre and his wife. The 39-year old Murray and two others allegedly went to the LaPierre home to buy marijuana. Mr. LaPierre died in the attack, his wife survived. Already Tony Locklear has admitted to murder and robbery, and his daughter Alexis has pled guilty to robbery. She’s expected to testify against Murray.
Baby Seal
(Ellsworth) – It’s not unusual for wildlife to block a road in Downeast Maine, but when it’s a baby seal far from shore, that gets some notice. It happened after that wind and rain storm in Ellsworth on Friday. Officer Andrew Weatherbee responded to reports of a seal on the Bayside Road. He nudged it to the road shoulder, out of the way of traffic and called in the Marine Patrol. Officer put it in a plastic tote, called the College of the Atlantic, weighed the pup, and released it at the Trenton boat ramp. The seal seemed healthy and swam right off.
Fatal Fire
(Kittery) – A fire in Southern Maine has left a 52-year old man dead. State Public Safety Department Spokesman Steve McCausland reports to Star 97.7 that Shaun Flaherty Jr. died inside his mobile home Saturday morning. Investigators were not able to determine how the fire started. It’s the 4th fire death in Maine so far in 2019.
Boat Destroyed
(North Haven) – A Rockport fisherman found out just how violent storms on the Maine coast can be. Daniel Dodge’s lobster boat broke free of its mooring in his home town and blew 10-miles across Penobscot Bay, landing on rocks on North Haven. The storm battered the boat to splinters before locals on the island could get to it. Village Soup dot-com reports The Marine Patrol is investigating.
Golden Donation
(Ellsworth) – US Congressman Jared Golden was among those who showed up to help the homeless this weekend in Ellsworth. Golden showed up at the Star 97.7 Re-gift-a-thon to benefit the Emmaus Homeless Shelter. He says the government shutdown which has temporarily ended was wrong to start with.
