Meth Charge – Baby
(Bangor) – An alleged drug user from Bangor faces charges of endangering her infant by nursing the baby. Last month the 7-month old was unconscious when she was taken to Northern Light Hospital. Bangor police say the child ingested methamphetamine through her mother’s milk. When police detectives arrived, the baby regained consciousness. This week detectives charged 20-year old Alyssa Murch with furnishing meth and endangering the child. She’s due in court next month.
Ferry Terminal
(Bar Harbor) – Work has begun to re-build the ferry terminal in Bar Harbor with plans for it to start service to and from Nova Scotia next summer. The State of Maine still owns the property, but voters in Bar Harbor approved purchase. The new DOT Commissioner says he will make sure that happens. The Mt. Desert Islander reports Bay Ferries Limited plans to move the high speed catamaran ferry service from Portland to Bar Harbor, but the US Government shutdown has delayed talks with customs about what is needed to make it happen.
Bucksport Disappearance Anniversary
(Bucksport) – For two years friends and police have looked for Cole Arey of Bucksport, and there is no sign of him anywhere. Arey who worked for a while as a substitute teacher in Bucksport, disappeared in January 2017. Some of his friends have speculated on social media that foul play is possible. Bucksport police tell WVII-TV they’re not ready to reach that conclusion. Investigators say they’ve had no leads from anyone where Arey might be.
Elver Fishing Rules
(Local) Elver dealers in Maine could face stricter regulations when elver fishing season opens in two months. The Ellsworth American reports the Department of Marine Resources will hold two public hearings next week on some proposed rules making it harder for dealers and harvesters to dodge sales controls. The first rule proposes only one licensed elver dealer doing business in any location, more than one dealer in a garage, barn or building would be illegal. And the second rule requires anyone intending to ship elvers out of state to notify the Marine Patrol two days ahead of the shipment for inspection.
Meth Lab Sentence
(Verona Island) A Verona Island man who operated a meth lab from his home will spend 2 years behind bars. 28-year-old Craig Kneeland received his prison sentence Tuesday after pleading guilty earlier this month to running a meth lab, arson, and drug possession. WABI-TV reports drug agents arrested Kneeland last April while he was buying acid and batteries at a hardware store, ingredients used to make meth. More evidence was found at his Bridges Road home. A fire also damaged the home but Kneeland did not call the fire department.
Girlfriend’s Plea
(Bangor) A woman who was one of 3 charged in a home invasion that left a Millinocket man dead has pleaded guilty to robbery charges. A plea agreement required 22-year-old Alexis Locklear to plead guilty to robbery in exchange for dropping a felony murder charge. The Bangor Daily News reports the attorney general’s office is calling for Locklear to be sentenced to time served when she’s sentenced in a few months. Her father, 44-year-old Tony Locklear, pleaded guilty to murder earlier this month. Prosecutors say Tony Locklear, Alexis Locklear, and her boyfriend, 39-year-old Christopher Murray, shot Wayne Lapierre to death and injured his wife at their home in Millinocket in December 2017. Murray’s trial is scheduled to begin on Monday.
Structure Collapse-Death
CORNVILLE, Maine (AP) – Authorities say one person died when a mobile home roof collapsed in central Maine. The Morning Sentinel reports the collapse happened on Wednesday in Cornville. Authorities identified the victim as 21-year old Adam Fine of Cornville. Another man helping Fine was also injured. The collapse happened about a half mile from the Skowhegan line.
Home Sales
(Augusta) The Maine Association of Realtors says the state set records for sales of existing single-family homes last year. Data shows 17,800 homes changed hands in 2018, an increase of more than 1.3-percent from the previous year. Prices also increased 7.5-percent to a statewide median sales price of $215-thousand-dollars. The highest real estate prices were in Cumberland County. The lowest prices were found in Aroostook County.
