Death Investigation
(Clifton) – Investigators say a 35-year old Clifton woman died from a gunshot wound, and they’ve charged her boyfriend with murder. State Troopers rushed to the scene on Route 9 in Clifton Monday morning, finding Kary Dill dead. They spoke with her boyfriend, 37-year old Dwight Osgood, Jr. and arrested him at state police headquarters Monday afternoon on murder charges. He’s due in court later today and more information about the incident may get released to the press then.
Dunbar’s
(Sullivan) – A large construction debris dumpster sits in front of a long closed store in Sullivan – a sign that it’ll get a facelift and reopen. Dunbar’s store on Route 1 closed in 2014. The Ellsworth American reports Scott Holtz and Bobby Cheshire of Gouldsboro plan to renovate the store and reopen under the name Sullivan Harbor Independent Purveyors. There is no timeline for reopening. Holtz and Cheshire operated a business in Vermont and purchased the store in December.

The woman said he appeared to be intoxicated and made suicidal threats. He then reportedly stole her car and drove toward Searsmont. Police found that car off the road but no sign of Sanner.

The snow may mix with or change to rain Friday afternoon along the immediate coast. The National Weather Service says a more significant storm system may affect the area late Saturday night into Sunday night with more significant snowfall. The snow could mix with or change to sleet and freezing rain Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening.
Suspect’s Administrative Release
(Ellsworth) Prosecutors are trying to send an accused dog killer from Hancock County back to jail for violating release conditions from a previous conviction. The Bangor Daily News reports 23-year-old Justin Chipman faces charges for burglary, theft, aggravated criminal mischief and aggravated animal cruelty in connection with the death of a dog last summer in Winter Harbor. At the time Chipman was on administrative release for a 2016 conviction of terrorizing, shooting a firearm from a vehicle, and burglary of a motor vehicle. If his administrative release is terminated, Chipman could go back to jail for 3 months before the dog shooting case is resolved. A hearing on the motion is scheduled at the courthouse in Ellsworth on February 15th.
Whooping Cough
(Ellsworth) The Maine Center for Disease Control has confirmed one case of whooping cough at Ellsworth Elementary Middle School. The school nurse sent a letter home to parents this week to let them know about the case. Symptoms of whooping cough or pertussis begin like a common cold with a sore throat and runny nose, then often develop into a severe cough that can last for weeks or months. If your child has had coughing fits for 2 weeks or longer you’re asked to contact your child’s doctor. The CDC says the best way to prevent whooping cough is to get vaccinated.
Traffic Change
(Holden) After years of traffic jams and bad accidents the Maine Department of Transportation plans to fix a stretch of Route 1A in Holden. The other is almost a mile, starting near the Holden Town Office and continuing east to the intersection with South and Bagaduce Roads. There’s no specific timeline to begin the project.
Best Selling Booze
(Portland) There’s no question Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy is a Maine icon, but its status as the state’s best-selling liquor is over. State data released Monday say Fireball Cinnamon Whisky is now the most popular brand of liquor in the state. The Bangor Daily News reports Fireball outsold Allen’s by half a million dollars last year. Fireball is well known for being available in 50-milliliter bottles called “nips.” The tiny bottles made up $4 million of its more than $10 million in sales last year.
