(NOAA- Caribou) What has changed: Upgraded the Winter Storm Watch for Northern Maine to Winter Storm Warning which includes the Greenville and Mount Katahdin region. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for the Lincoln, Dover-Foxcroft and Bangor regions.
Overview: . Snow will move into the state late this evening. Precipitation will be all snow across Northern Aroostook County with mixed precipitation expected from the Maine Central Highlands into Southeast Aroostook County. Warm air being drawn north on southerly winds will allow snow to mix with and eventually change to rain across the Bangor and Downeast region Tuesday morning.
Confidence: High confidence that the heaviest snowfall will occur from Greenville to Caribou from about Midnight through 8 AM Tuesday.
Impacts: The heavy snowfall will lead to travel difficulties overnight into Tuesday. Snow changing over to mixed precipitation and then rain Tuesday morning, will lead to some slippery road conditions from the Millinocket and Houlton area down across the Bangor region.
Snow and Blowing Snow: Snowfall rates of up to 1 inch per hour are expected during the overnight hours into early Tuesday morning, mainly from Greenvile to Caribou. Blowing snow is expected, mainly north of Millinocket and Houlton late Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening with northwest winds gusting to 25 to 30 mph.
Ice: A thin glaze of ice is expected from Greenville to Houlton.
Marine: Gale force winds along with seas between 7 and 12 feet are expected late tonight into Tuesday afternoon.
