Decorations like trees, lights, and candles increase the risk of home fires during the holidays. The Red Cross urges people to check holiday light cords to make sure they’re not frayed or broken and don’t string too many strands of lights together. When purchasing an artificial tree make sure it’s fire resistant and don’t display it near a fireplace or other heat sources. And don’t forget to turn off Christmas lights when leaving home or going to bed. For more safety tips on avoiding home fires visit: Red Cross dot Org.
