Ellsworth Fire
(Ellsworth) – Fire damaged an Ellsworth apartment house last night, but all the tenants made it out safely. Firefighters from a half dozen communities responded to the blaze on Christian Ridge Road shortly after 8:30. Flames were coming from the top floor, prompting firefighters to pull off siding and cutting a hole in the wall outside and tearing out a wall inside to reach the flames. Fire departments from Lamoine, Hancock, Trenton, Dedham and Surry assisted Ellsworth. Thomas Poulin of Bangor owns the building. Authorities have not said what caused the fire.
Fatal Fire – Oakland
(Oakland) – A man is dead after fire tore through a camper trailer in Oakland yesterday. The Kennebec Journal reports the trailer was fully engulfed in flames when the first fire trucks arrived. The camper was parked on Sawtelle Road in a complex that included several mobile homes. Investigators from the fire marshal’s office have not yet identified the victim and they’ll look for the cause today.
Manslaughter Indictment
(Machias) – Grand jurors in Washington County have returned a manslaughter indictment against a 24-year old Addison Woman. The Bangor Daily News reports Kayla East was distracted by a child riding in the truck with her in October 2017 and crossed the center line on the East Side Road in Addison and struck two pedestrians. 42-year old Trissa Donovan died in the mishap. East’s driver’s license was suspended at the time of the crash. She’s charged with manslaughter, driving to endanger and other charges.
School Trip Fundraiser
(Sullivan) Sumner Memorial High School is hosting a hunters’ breakfast this Saturday to benefit the Junior class trip. Students from the Junior class will be serving up eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, donuts, orange juice and coffee in the high school cafeteria. The breakfast is from 5 ‘til 9 Saturday morning. The cost is $5 per person.
Poliquin Sues Dunlap
(Bangor) – Ranked choice voting may go on trial after the Republican incumbent in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District filed suit yesterday. Bruce Poliquin finished about 2-thousand votes ahead of Democrat Jared Golden last week, but neither candidate had a majority of the votes in the 4-way race. Poliquin claims ranked choice voting disenfranchised some voters who chose only one candidate on the ballot. Meanwhile, the ranked choice count continues in Augusta.
Overdose Death Arrest
(Hermon) Hampden police investigating an overdose death from this summer have arrested a woman in connection to the June fatality. WABI-TV reports 27-year-old Kayla Whittemore of Hermon was arrested last weekend charged with drug trafficking and is held on $10-thousand-dollars bail.
Stolen Car
(Orono) Orono police are asking locals to be on the look out for a stolen car. The vehicle was reported missing from a resident’s home on North Maine Avenue on Sunday. The blue Toyota Corolla has the Maine license plate: 9314TQ. The car has a spare tire on the front driver’s side, there are small dents on the roof, hood and trunk, and the passenger side door has a large dent as well. Anyone who sees the car should call Orono police.
Local Blood Drives
(Hancock/Washington) The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage and urgently needs blood and platelet donors to give now to avoid delays in lifesaving medical care for patients. During September and October, the Red Cross collected over 21-thousand fewer blood and platelet donations nationally than what hospitals needed. There’s a blood drive in Ellsworth today (on 11/14) at Saint Joseph’s Church on Main Street from Noon to 5pm. And in Harrington donors can swing by Narraguagus Jr-Sr High School this afternoon from 2 ‘til 7pm.
Murder Sentencing Delayed
(Alfred) The sentencing of a woman charged with killing her ex-husband in his driveway has been pushed back to December. 48-year-old Kandee Collind entered a guilty plea to a charge of intentional and knowing murder in August. Authorities charge that Collind stabbed Scott Weyland in front of their children in his driveway in Acton in February 2017 after learning that Weyland was given custody of their children. Collind’s attorney has said Collind wanted to spare her children a potentially traumatic trial, so she pleaded guilty. Her sentencing has been rescheduled for December 13th.
Cops Follow Buses
(Baileyville) You may see police in Baileyville following school buses from time to time in an effort to keep kids safe. The initiative comes after 3 kids were fatally struck by a driver last month in Indiana as they boarded a bus. Baileyville PD posts on their Facebook page that they’ll be following different buses at different times to make sure drivers are doing the right things and that kids are safe.

- The Boston Celtics return home to the TD Garden after a poor road trip where they lost 3 of 4 games. The Chicago Bulls are in town tonight.
- The Boston Bruins are on the road in Colorado to face the Avalanche tonight. Tukka Rask is back with the team after a 3-game leave to take care of family business.
- Red Sox knuckleballer Steven Wright had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee yesterday to remove scar tissue from a previous surgery. Wright missed most of last season and the World Series.
- Major League Baseball has named the managers of the year. In the American League, Sox manager Alex Cora finished right behind Oakland’s Bob Melvin. The National League award goes to Atlanta’s Brian Snitker
