Bonfire Canceled
(Bangor) – A Bangor juvenile faces terrorizing charges after allegedly posting threats on social media that led police to cancel the homecoming bonfire at Bangor High School last night. The Bangor Police Department reports to Star 97.7 that a parent brought the posts to the attention of officers. They decided the school should cancel the bonfire and arrested the unnamed juvenile.
Bag Ban
(Ellsworth) – Environmentalists and the Ellsworth business community talked about plans to ban plastic bag use Thursday. The group called the Green Action Team has drafted an ordinance and hopes to present it to the city council in the near future for possible enactment. 15 other Maine towns and cities have enacted plastic bag ordinances and business has adapted by using non-plastic bags. It’s not known when the group will be ready to submit a final ordinance draft.
Cottontail Cottage Open House
(Lamoine) Cottontail Cottage Rabbit Rescue’s fall jubilee is this Sunday. It’s one of 4 open houses the non-profit hosts each year. Shelter manager Angel Bell tells Star 97-7 that Cottontail Cottage has helped bunnies from around the state for about 6 years. The bunny rescue shelter began in their garage, and now there are 3 bunny barns on property. The Fall Jubilee and Open House is this Sunday from 11 ‘til 2 on Cottontail Lane in Lamoine.
Pot Luck
(Ellsworth) Healthy Acadia is trying to ramp up its volunteer effort by recruiting folks to help with Project Hope or to become Recovery Coaches. If you’re interested but aren’t sure where to begin, volunteer angel Kim Pinkham has a suggestion- attend a pot luck dinner at Your Place in Ellsworth Falls. Arson Suspect Sought
(Benton) State Fire Marshals are asking for the public’s help identifying a man possibly involved in setting fire to a self-storage facility in Benton. A passerby called in the fire Monday evening at R & D Self Storage on the Neck Road. The passerby partially put out the flames until firefighters arrived and took over. Investigators want to talk to a man captured in surveillance photos wearing a Dale Earnhardt jacket and ski mask. Anyone with information should call state police in Augusta.
Convoy For A Cause
(Bangor) A convoy of vehicles is set to drive past the hospital window where 2-year-old Enoch McGovern is recovering. The Bangor Daily News reports Convoy For A Cause could have as many as 500 dump trucks, motorcycles, pickup trucks and other vehicles parading past Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center on Saturday, October 27th. Organizers say it’s simply to cheer up the toddler, who’s recovering from serious injuries suffered October 4th when his mother stepped in front of a tanker truck on Interstate-95 while holding him. A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help the McGovern family.
Fall Clean-up Day
(Orrington) Orrington’s Fall Clean-Up Day is tomorrow. Residents are asked to pitch-in and volunteer anytime from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM at the Public Works facility on Tupper Drive.
Crime Statistics
(Augusta) The Department of Public Safety says crime in Maine dropped for the 6th consecutive year. The Department’s annual study shows overall crime was down more than 8% in 2017 from the previous year. However, there was an increase last year in the number of rape, assault, motor vehicle theft and homicide reports. Police received reports of nearly 22-thousand crimes last year throughout the state.
Toddler Death Unsolved
(Bucksport) Thursday marked one year since the death of a 2-year-old Bucksport girl, but police still don’t know who killed Kloe Hawksley. The Ellsworth American reports that investigators ruled the toddler’s death a homicide but no one has been charged. Bucksport police and EMTs responded to a report an unresponsive child on Central Street last October. First responders were unable to revive Hawksley and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have still not disclosed how the child died.
Cony HS Terrorizing
(Augusta) Augusta police say a threat of violence involving a firearm at Cony High School was not credible. The Augusta police department reports to Star 97-7 that they made contact with the juvenile and a parent as soon as an anonymous tip came in Wednesday. Police determined the threat posed no danger and classes were held the rest of this week as scheduled.
Emera – Bridge
(Deer Isle) – Motorists using the bridge that links Deer Isle to Sedgwick may face delays starting Monday. Emera Maine reports to Star 97.7 that they’re doing to begin work on the bridge to improve electric service reliability. Utility officials say the project will continue through mid-December. They’ll keep one lane of the bridge open at all times, but they’ll restrict loads greater than 10-feet wide.

- The Red Sox have won the American League Pennant. Boston beat Houston 4-1 to wrap up the American League Championship in 5-games. Jackie Bradley Jr. was named the series MVP.
