Fatal Fire
(Eddington) – An elderly Eddington man died when his house caught fire yesterday. WABI-TV reports firefighters quickly put out the flames, but could not save the Pond Road man. Fire investigators say a family member had come to check on the victim and discovered the house full of smoke. The State Fire Marshal’s office continues to investigate. They’ve not yet released the man’s name.
Bucksport Drug Bust
(Bucksport) – Five people face drug trafficking charges after a pair of busts in Bucksport and Orland. The Bangor Daily News reports the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency raided the two homes, finding heroin, crack and cocaine. They also seized $6-thousand dollars in cash and a pair of hand guns. Four of the people arrested are from Maine and one from Massachusetts.
Robbery Plea
(Bangor) – A 42-year old man from Old Town has admitted he pulled off a pair of armed robberies. The US Attorney’s office tells Star 97.7 that Richard Moloney admitted to hold ups at a convenience store in Milford and a bank branch in Orono. Police arrested him June 15th in Portland, five days after the first robbery. Investigators say Moloney told them he planned to rob his way across the country to Mexico.
Coffee w/ a Cop
(Ellsworth) In observance of National “Coffee with a Cop Day” the Ellsworth PD invites the public to join them at Flexit Café and Bakery on Main Street in Ellsworth. Officers will be there October 3rd from 9 to 11 AM to answer questions and to let the community voice any concerns.
Int’l Maritime Film Fest
(Bucksport) A weekend-long documentary film festival returns to Bucksport Main Street Bucksport Executive director, Brook Minner says the International Maritime Film Festival consists of feature length films, shorts, and everything in between. Alleged Dog Attackers Free
(Ellsworth) The second man accused of murdering a family dog in Winter Harbor is now also free on bail. The Ellsworth American reports 22-year-old Justin Chipman had remained in the Hancock County Jail since September 5th, but a judge Tuesday granted Chipman bail in the interim. A hearing on the state’s request to revoke Chipman’s administrative release from a previous terrorizing conviction was postponed after the DA’s office filed a motion for a continuance. Co-defendant 37-year-old Nathan Burke has been free on bail since September 5th and is said to be out of state. The pair faces several charges stemming from an alleged crime spree in August involving the gruesome death of Franky the pug-mix.
Crack Arrests
(Bangor) Four people are locked up following a month-long investigation into the distribution of crack cocaine in Penobscot County. Drug agents pulled over 29-year-old Derek Auger of Brewer in Hermon last Friday. Drug agents searched the car and also a residence on Pier Street in Bangor, seizing 15 grams of crack cocaine and cash. Agents arrested Auger along with 3 men from Detroit Michigan.
Teacher Charged
(Freeport) A teacher at a Christian school in Freeport is accused of allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student. The Bangor Daily News reports 37-year-old Derek Boyce of Woolwich is a charged with two counts of gross sexual assault and two counts of unlawful sexual contact with a minor. He’s a teacher at Pine Tree Academy in Freeport. Boyce is held at the Androscoggin County Jail on $50-thousand-dollars bail.
Duck Hunter Rescued
(Penobscot Cty) Game wardens say a stranded duck hunter’s good plan may have saved his life. 57-year-old Bruce Thibodeau of Silver Ridge told his wife the areas where he’d be hunting. When he didn’t return home she reported him missing after 11 Tuesday night. Game wardens searched those areas and found Thibodeau standing on top of his submerged boat in waist-deep water at about 2 AM. Thibodeau says his boat flipped and he’d been stranded for about 12 hours. Wardens say he was in good health.

- The Red Sox split a double header with Baltimore yesterday, winning the afternoon game 19-3, but losing the nightcap 10-to-3.
