Power Out-Bangor
(Bangor) – Police in Bangor say Main Street near the Hampden town line will remain closed for several hours today as utility crews replace downed lines and a burned pole. The possibly storm related mishap occurred early this morning when the lines came down. They’ve closed off Main Street and urge motorists to use Route 202 and Interstate 395 until the problem is fixed. About 19-hundred Emera Maine customers lost power.
Lobsterman Plea
(Bangor) – A 30-year old lobsterman from Cushing faces up to 10-years in prison and a quarter million dollar fine after pleading guilty to Seaman’s Manslaughter. The US Attorney’s office tells Star 97.7 that Christopher Hutchinson will find out his sentence later. He was drunk and high when he took his lobster boat with two men on board out to sea during a predicted storm. The Coast Guard rescued Hutchinson, but bodies of the two others aboard were never recovered.
Pot Operations Plea
(Bangor) – Two men who were part of a marijuana growing operation in the Waldo County town of Frankfort found out their sentences yesterday. The US Attorney’s office reports to Star 97.7 that 35-year old Jeremy Duguay of Bangor will spend two years on probation. A co-defendant, 34-year old Nicholas Reynolds of Bangor to 6-months in prison and 3-years of supervised release. Both men were part of a complex operation in Frankfort to manufacture marijuana busted back in May of 2016. They claimed to be growing medical marijuana, but exceeded state limits and they were not registered growers.
Etna Robbery
(Etna) – An overnight armed robbery has police in the Etna area looking for at least three men. They held up the Etna Village Variety store last night, making off with a cash drawer from the register. One of the three suspects held a shotgun during the heist. No one is injured, and police have not said how the robbers made their getaway. State Police and sheriff’s department deputies used a canine to try to track the trio.
Outdoor Women’s Expo
(Bangor) An event next month will focus on women’s enjoyment of the outdoors. Event coordinator Kimberly Merrifield says the Act Out Women’s Adventure Expo was initiated because the number of women interested in outdoor ventures is a growing population. The Bangor Daily News sponsors the Expo on October 6th from 10 ‘til 2 at Husson University.
Drug Conspiracy Sentence
(Bangor) A Newport man is sentenced to 7 years behind bars for his roll in a drug operation. 54-year-old Todd Shorey entered a guilty plea in April last year to conspiring to distribute over a kilogram of heroin. Court documents say between May 2015 and January 2016 Shorey schemed with others to obtain large quantities of heroin on a weekly basis from out-of-state suppliers and sell it throughout Central Maine. Shorey must also pay a 5-thousand-dollar fine.
Assault Sentence
(Baileyville) A Baileyville man is sentenced to 3-years in prison for charges stemming from a domestic violence assault in January. The Bangor Daily News reports 29-year-old Timothy Curtis must also attend batterer’s intervention classes, substance abuse counseling, and cannot drink alcohol. Jurors this summer convicted Curtis for assaulting his girlfriend and her son. He’s been held at the Piscataquis County Jail unable to post high cash bail since his arrest in January. That time will be applied toward his sentence as “time served”.
Nude Photo Sentence
(Farmington) A traveling salesman from Pennsylvania will spend 3 months in jail for sending himself nude photos from a customer’s phone without her consent. In March 32-year-old Kevin Rennie of Philadelphia was working at Tinny’s Auto Outlet when he assisted a female customer by linking her phone to the new car she bought. While the phone was in Rennie’s possession he discovered her naked pictures and sent them to himself. WABI-TV reports Rennie pleaded guilty to Aggravated Criminal Invasion of Computer Privacy in July and was sentenced last week.
Robbery Arrests
(Bangor) Bangor police had to sort out a case of “he said, they said” when they responded to what they thought was an armed robbery. Police went to an Essex Street apartment Monday afternoon and detained a man with a knife trying to enter a residence. Officers learned the armed man had been attacked and robbed by 2 people inside the apartment and the victim was allegedly just trying to get his money back. Arrested are 24-year-old Dominique Torrey and 26-year-old Zachary Elkins, both of Bangor. They’re charged with Robbery, Assault, and Violating Release Conditions.
Donut Boy
(Brunswick) A 10-year-old boy from Florida who’s on a mission to deliver donuts to cops in all 50 states will arrive in Maine this week. Tyler Carach has delivered more than 50-thousand donuts in 39 states so far. He’s scheduled to stop in Brunswick on Thursday morning at 7, then arrive at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office around 11 AM. Carach is bringing police officers their favorite snack as a way to thank them for protecting our country.
North Bend Road
(Ellsworth) Ellsworth police closed down the North Bend Road Tuesday morning as a person called threatening suicide. Numerous officers responded. Chief Glenn Moshier confirms they were unable to successfully intervene. The road reopened a short time later.
