Gouldsboro Fire
(Gouldsboro) – No injuries following an early morning building fire in Gouldsboro. Firefighters from a half dozen communities awoke to their pagers going off shortly before 5-o’clock this morning with reports of the fire on Gouldsboro Point Road. It turned out to be in an auxiliary building at a complex that borders the ocean which Google Earth showed to have a dock and numerous buildings. No word on a cause and the fire was out within a half hour.
Cement Truck Roll Over
(Trenton) – Wrecker crews gingerly righted a loaded cement truck in Trenton yesterday after it tipped over on the Oak Point Road. The truck belongs to the Sargent Corporation, and the driver suffered only minor injuries. The Mt. Desert Islander reports three heavy duty wreckers slowly righted the truck which had 10-yards of wet cement on board. The truck is a total loss, and deputies had to close part of the road for nearly 4-hours yesterday morning.
Boat Motor Theft Arrest
(Hancock) Public tips about the theft of 2 outboard motors from a boat broken down in Hancock last week led police to the alleged suspect. Hancock County Sheriff Scott Kane says deputies arrested the boat owner. 50-year-old Dean Langton of Addison is charged with theft by deception and filing a false report. Kane says Langton stood to receive nearly $61-thousand-dollars of insurance money by reporting the outboard motors stolen.
EMS Meeting
(Ellsworth) Hancock County officials are preparing as an ambulance company that’s operated in the region for about 45 years takes its last ride this Friday. County Ambulance announced last week that decreased revenues and other circumstances forced the difficult decision to close. Capital Ambulance intends to pick up where County Ambulance leaves off. Maine Emergency Medical Services Director Shaun Saint Germain says callers shouldn’t notice a difference. Town managers, Hancock County EMA, Ellsworth Public Safety, Hancock County Fire Chiefs Association, Atlantic Partners EMS and Capital Ambulance will meet tomorrow afternoon to discuss what happens next.
Teacher Certification
(Augusta) The Maine Department of Education is backlogged after releasing the new online certification system for teachers in June. The Department reports they’ve received 10-thousand renewal applications over the summer. Currently 3-thousand applications are in queue with an approximate 8-week processing time.
Deputy Town Clerk
(Milbridge) The town of Milbridge is looking to hire a Deputy Town Clerk. The part-time position pays based on experience and the right candidate must be able to work with the public. Interested applicants should contact the Milbridge Town Office for information on applying. The position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
Man Found Safe
(Jonesport) State police say a Jonesport man reported missing from his home was located and is safe. Troopers and the Maine Warden Service using K9’s searched Sunday overnight into Monday for 53-year-old Stanley Reynolds. Troopers located him yesterday morning, but are not saying where. Unrelated to this case, police are still looking for a Blue Hill woman who was reported missing by a friend. State Police spokesman Steve McCausland says no one has seen 37-year old Jessica Grindle since July 23rd. We’ve posted her picture on the Star 97.7 Facebook page.
Alan Baker’s Retirement Party
(Ellsworth) – A new era in media begins in Hancock County next week as the home town weekly newspapers change hands. This afternoon the Ellsworth American will host an open house to say farewell to longtime publisher Alan Baker who has sold the American and the Mt. Desert Islander to Reade Brower who owns numerous weekly newspapers and all but one of the daily papers in Maine. The party runs from 4 to 6 PM.

- The Red Sox send Brian Johnson to the mound tonight against the Miami Marlins. Boston was off Monday, but their lead over the Yankees increased to 6-and-a-half games as New York lost.
- Portland Sea Dogs 12 New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6 (Eduardo Rodriguez and Christian Vasquez made rehab appearances for Portland)
- Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady cut short a radio phone call to a Boston station when the announcer started asking questions about his personal trainer.
- The New York Giants have agreed to a 5-year, $95-million dollar contract extension with wide receiver Odell Beckham.
