Governor – Hospitalized
(Bangor) – Governor Paul LePage is expected to make a full recovery after spending the weekend in the hospital. A spokesman says the Governor started feeling discomfort while visiting family in New Brunswick Saturday. He and his wife Anne went to a hospital in the Canadian Province and an ambulance carried him to a medical center in Presque Isle. He then went to Eastern Maine Medical Center late Saturday night and also spent last night in the hospital for observation. The spokesman says the 69-year old Governor who is finishing out his final few months in office was in stable condition.
Missing People – Blue Hill, Jonesport
(Blue Hill) – Authorities have asked the public to help locate a Jonesport man listed as missing overnight. State Police Spokesman Steve McCausland reports to Star 97.7 that 53-year old Stanley Reynolds left his home at about 10-o’clock last night. He suffers from COPD and requires medical attention. Anyone who has seen Reynolds is asked to call the state police. The search is also on for a 37-year old Blue Hill woman reported missing for more than a month now. McCausland says a friend reported Jessica Grindle missing last Wednesday. She was last seen on July 23rd. We’ve posted her picture on the Star 97.7 Facebook page.

Bar Harbor Road Work
(Bar Harbor) – The road work that has tied up traffic going into Bar Harbor for two summers will take a break for the Labor Day weekend. The Maine Department of Transportation reports to Star 97.7 that once work wraps up Thursday afternoon, it will stop until Tuesday morning as the area celebrates Labor Day. The one-way detour around the Park Loop Road will remain open. School opens on Thursday on MDI.
Holden Chase
(Brewer) – A 45-year old New Hampshire man who led police on a chase from Holden to Brewer last evening spent the night at the Penobscot County Jail. Motorists reported an erratically operating car and Holden police tried to pull it over. The driver, identified as Joshua Dube, allegedly tried to flee and ended up crashing on South Main Street in Brewer near the Orrington town line. He charged with operating as a habitual offender and more charges are likely.
Hire-A-Vet
(Augusta) Maine’s annual Hire-A-Vet campaign kick-off event is shaping up to be Maine’s largest hiring fair. About 200 employers from all over Maine have registered to be at the Augusta Civic Center this Thursday (8/30). The Maine Hire-A-Vet campaign is a statewide effort to commit at least 100 employers to hiring at least 100 veterans and military family members during a 100-day period.
Lifetime Outdoor Achievement Winners
(Augusta) The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has selected this year’s winners of the Lifetime Outdoor Achievement Awards. Criteria for the award requires that the individual must have hunted, trapped and fished in Maine for a combined total of 40 years. Dana Johnson of Wells and Roger Milligan of Princeton will be recognized at the annual Sportsman Alliance of Maine banquet on September 8th in Waterville.
School Security
(Ellsworth) New security measures are in place as students return to school in Ellsworth in September. Cameras, additional door locks, and key-card entry has been added in some areas. Superintendent Dan Higgins tells the Ellsworth American that exterior doors will be locked after 3PM and staff will check-in visitors during after school hours. The Ellsworth police department intends to keep a heightened presence. Chief Glenn Moshier tells the newspaper he hopes to one day have a dedicated school resource officer on each school campus in Ellsworth.
Talent Show Follow-up
(Ellsworth) Twelve contestants from last week’s talent show at The Grand will advance to the finals next week. The Grand’s operations manager Kimberly Fitch says judges narrowed down the selection from 20 performances. Acts taking the stage at the Blue Hill Fair this Thursday include many instrument players and even a Downeast Humorist. Sheriff Scott Kane will be one of the local-celebrity judges August 30th; the event will be hosted by YMCA Camp Discovery director Roman Perez.
Pot in Hotel
(Waterville) A New York man who said he came to Maine to buy waterfront property instead got to see the inside of a Maine jail cell. WABI-TV reports 63-year-old Nicholas Lombardo checked into a hotel on Kennedy Memorial Drive in Waterville last week and allegedly left behind more than 12-times the legal limit of pot. Cleaning staff found freezer bags filled with 2-pounds of marijuana and more than $82-thousand-dollars in cash. Lombardo had previously served time in federal prison for marijuana convictions.
Hydroelectric Plants
(Jay) A Canadian power company says it expects to purchase dozens of hydroelectric plants across the U.S. by the end of the year – including four in Maine. The plants are located in Jay, Livermore, and Livermore Falls and are currently operated by Eagle Creek Renewable Energy LLC. The Sun Journal reports Ontario Power Generation announced on Aug. 9 it had entered into a purchase and sale agreement with Hudson Clean Energy partners and others to acquire 100 percent of the equity of Eagle Creek.
Litchfield Fair
(Litchfield) The Litchfield Fair begins September 7th but the Litchfield Farmer’s Club is asking for donations after the former treasurer stole more than $10-thousand-dollars from the organization. The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office tells WMTW that 36-year-old Ryan Beaudette allegedly confessed to stealing the money. He’s charged with theft. Organizers say Beaudette drained money that was supposed to be used for the fair.
LL Bean Donation
(Freeport) L.L. Bean is providing $3 million to the National Park Foundation’s effort to promote parks. The money will be used for the foundation’s “Find Your Park” initiative that aims to encourage people to get outside and explore the more than 400 national parks. L.L. Bean’s great-grandson, Chairman Shawn Gorman, said the partnership makes sense because both organizations are committed to getting people outside.
