Gardiner Deaths
(Gardiner) – State police say a man who shot himself in front of a State Trooper was originally from the Dedham area. Police pulled over Gyrth Rutan of Sturbridge Massachusetts last week in Gardiner. After he shot himself, officers found a woman’s body inside his trunk. Massachusetts police are investigating her death, and they’ve not released a name yet.
Recycling Building Fire
(Bangor) – Fire destroyed one of the buildings at a Bangor recycling company. The Bangor Daily News reports the blaze at AUM Recycling on the North Bangor Road off Outer Broadway destroyed a garage where gasoline and oil were stored. Firefighters kept the tanks from exploding outside the building, but several explosions went off inside. The fire marshal’s office will look over the scene for a possible cause. No injuries are reported.
Rockefeller Auction
(Seal Harbor) – A big auction is planned Friday in Northeast Harbor as more art from the David Rockefeller collection is liquidated. The auction follows a major art auction by Christie’s auction house which took in a staggering $832-million dollars. The auction starts at Noon time. Proceeds will benefit charitable organizations named in Rockefeller’s will.
Major Meth Bust
(Hollis) Maine state police responding to a reported drug overdose in Hollis stumbled upon a major meth-making operation. Last week drug agents went to a home on Killick Pond Road and discovered several active one-pot style meth labs inside the residence. They arrested ten people; 3 of them are charged with operating a meth lab and the other 7 charged with criminal conspiracy.
Rape & Murder Indictment
(Ellsworth) A Bar Harbor man is formally charged with the rape and murder of a friend in Bar Harbor. A Hancock County grand jury indicted 21-year-old Jalique Keene this week. The Bangor Daily News reports 19-year-old Mikaela Conley drove to Boston Logan International Airport on May 31st to pick up Keene and bring him back to Bar Harbor. Keene hung out at her home across from Conners Emerson School that evening. Security footage from the school allegedly shows Keene carrying Conley over his shoulder as she kicks her feet. Hours later other footage shows Keene allegedly dragging her lifeless body into the woods.
Meth Indictment
(Verona Island) A Hancock County grand jury has indicted a Verona Island man on charges of making meth. 28-year-old Craig Kneeland was arrested in April after police and drug agents got a tip that he’d been making methamphetamine at his Bridges Road home. The Bangor Daily News reports Kneeland was indicted Thursday on 2 counts of operating a meth lab, one count of arson, aggravated criminal mischief, four counts of unlawful possession of illegal drugs and violating release conditions.
Town Treasurer Indicted
(Blue Hill) The former treasurer of Blue Hill has been indicted for theft. 38-year-old Jody Murphy of Franklin was indicted by a Hancock County grand jury for allegedly stealing nearly $18-thousand-dollars while she was Blue Hill’s treasurer. WABI-TV reports the Attorney General’s Office began investigating Murphy last year after town selectmen found discrepancies during a routine audit. Murphy was placed on administrative leave in October and resigned in November.
Preserve Walks
(Hancock) Frenchman Bay Conservancy encourages folks to get out and explore the area with a guided trail walk each week. Spokesman Austin Schuver says this morning’s scenic walk is one of several offered this summer and will last an hour to an hour-and-a-half. This morning’s walk is at Long Ledges Preserve, led by Conservancy president Lisa Heyward.
BHHT Meeting
(Blue Hill) Blue Hill Heritage Trust’s 33rd Annual Meeting and Barbeque is a chance for the public to learn more about the organization’s mission and get together with neighbors. DHHS Commissioner
(Augusta) Governor Paul LePage says his health and human services’ commissioner Ricker Hamilton will retire August 31st. The governor said he’ll appoint Office of Family Independence Director Bethany Hamm as acting commissioner. Hamilton’s agency has recently struggled with an uptick of child abuse and neglect reports.
