Hampden Murder
(Hampden) – The medical examiner’s office says a Hampden woman died from gunshot wounds Friday. Family members identify her as 49-year old Renee Clark. State Police charged her brother-in-law, Philip Clark, with murder for Friday’s shooting, but have not officially identified the victim. Mrs. Clark’s ex-husband told reporters that she was the victim, and the suspect is her estranged husband’s brother. Clark and her husband were in the process of divorcing.
Super 8 Robbery
(Augusta) – Augusta police say a man robbed the Super 8 motel during the weekend. In a news release sent to Star 97.7, police say the man entered the hotel early Friday morning dressed in dark clothing and a sweatshirt hood covering his face. The man threatened the employee and demanded money then fled the Western Avenue motel. Police are asking for the public’s help locating the suspect.
Lincoln Drug Bust
(Lincoln) – Drug agents had been keeping an eye on two men in Lincoln, and now both face charges after a search. The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency tells Star 97.7 that 27-year old Jared Fogg of Maine and Florida and 29-year old Rogelio Rios are suspected of selling methamphetamine. A search of their car after the pair were arrested late last week yielded 125-grams of crystal meth, 42-grams of heroin, $19-thousand dollars in cash and two guns. One of the guns was stolen.
Lewiston Death
(Lewiston) – A horrific scene in front of a Lewiston Laundromat yesterday morning as a man stabbed a 48-year old woman to death in front of her small children. State Police spokesman Steve McCausland tells Star 97.7 that Kimberly Dobbie had just put a load of wash into a machine and stepped outside with her kids when the man attacked her. She died at the hospital a few hours later. A bystander tackled the attacker and held him until police could arrive. Police have questioned him at the hospital but have not yet released a name.
SW Harbor Fire Chief
(Southwest Harbor) – The new fire chief in Southwest Harbor has been hanging around the fire station for pretty much most of his life. The Mt. Desert Islander reports town officials have appointed 30-year old Tom Chisholm as chief, replacing Jack Martel who retired as chief a few weeks ago. Chisholm’s father, Sam, was fire chief for several years. The younger Chisholm works full time for the Bangor Fire Department.
Corinth Fire
(Corinth) – A weekend fire in Corinth left a home badly damaged. WABI-TV reports the call to the Hudson Road home came in Saturday night. When the first firefighters arrived the home’s attic was engulfed in flames. Smoke and water damaged the remainder of the home. No injuries are reported and fire officials have not said what caused the blaze.
Friends of Fort Knox
(Prospect) A nationwide search is on to find a new executive director for Friends of Fort Knox. The post became vacant in late May when the executive director for 18 years, Leon Seymour died of cancer. Board Chairman Carol Weston says the next executive director has big shoes to fill, but they hope he or she will understand Seymour’s vision and stay the course. Weston says no matter who’s hired the theme for Fright at the Fort was already chosen this year and will revolve around Steven King novels.
Trails Reopen
(Bar Harbor) – Acadia National Park has reopened the Precipice and Orange and Black trails after shutting them down for a couple of months while falcons nested on Champlain Mountain. One other trail in the park remains closed due to nesting falcons – the Jordan Cliffs trail. Rangers shut down the popular trails in mid-April, and say 8-falcon chicks hatched this year, up from 5-last year.
