Rapist Sentenced
(Wiscasset) – A Waldo County man convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl several times over a 2-year period will spend the next 18-years in prison and another 25-years on supervised release after that. A judge sentenced Paul Andrews of Jackson to the stiff prison term. Police arrested him in 2016 and he entered a guilty plea to gross sexual assault last month. While held at the two bridges jail Andrews also attacked a Stockton Springs man who is held for allegedly beating his step-daughter to death.
Deer Isle/Stonington Principal Leaving
(Deer Isle) – After spending less than a year on the job, the principal and athletic director at Deer Isle/Stonington High School is leaving. Ed Hatch tells the Island Advantages that he plans to leave the education field all together after 23-years. Hatch came to the school from Bucksport High School where he’d been assistant principal and athletic director. He said he doesn’t know what his future plans are, but it will not be in the education field.
Sorrento EMS
(Sorrento) Town officials in Sorrento aren’t giving up on the town’s EMS services just yet. Fire chief Joey Clark tells Star 97-7 that since news spread last week about the town potentially surrendering their license due to lack of EMTs, a few residents have come forward and offered to be part of the solution. The issue will be discussed again at Wednesday night’s regular selectmen’s meeting. Clark says any residents with concerns about Sorrento’s EMS status should call the town office.
Cop Killer Court
(Augusta) – No bail for accused cop killer John Williams. A judge yesterday also ordered a psychological exam and moved any future trial to Portland for the 29-year old. An affidavit filed in the case shows that Williams called a friend the night he allegedly executed Somerset County Deputy Eugene Cole. The autopsy shows that Cole died from a single gunshot wound to the neck that severed his spinal cord. Williams called a friend after the killing and tried to steal the friend’s car. The friend said Williams had been smoking crack cocaine for several days.
Chamber Voting
(Ellsworth) It’s the last week of voting for the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce annual awards. Three categories are up for a vote: New Business of the Year, Revitalization, and Customer Service. Murder Plea
(Bangor) One of the 3 suspects accused in the Millinocket home invasion-turned murder last December is now in jail in Bangor.. The Bangor Daily News reports 21-year-old Alexis Locklear was extradited to Maine last week from North Carolina and pled not guilty to murder and robbery. Her father Tony Locklear and her boyfriend Christopher Murray are the other two people charged with entering Wayne LaPierre’s home to rob him. LaPierre was shot to death. The trio is held at the Penobscot County Jail.
Sex Trafficking Arrest
(Kennebunk) Maine state police arrested a Massachusetts man wanted on a nationwide extradition warrant out of Massachusetts for Sex Trafficking. State troopers stopped a car on the Maine Turnpike in Kennebunk on Friday and learned that the charges on the warrant against 35-year-old Jason McLeod stemmed from a homicide. McLeod was transported to the York County Jail and booked on a Fugitive from Justice charge. He awaits extradition to Massachusetts after making his initial court appearance in Maine this week.
Car Burglaries
(Rockland) A Rockland citizen helped local police track down an alleged car burglar. A witness called police late Saturday evening to report seeing a man on Talbot Avenue digging around in a vehicle that wasn’t his. The caller told police the suspect entered a Summer Street apartment complex. Police arrived and confronted 55-year-old Anthony Bates. Bates had no stolen items on him and was soon released. Police kept an eye on him and later observed Bates entering a vehicle on North Main Street that wasn’t his. He’s charged with 2 counts of Motor Vehicle Burglary and Refusing to Submit to Arrest.
Drugs for Pets
(Augusta) Maine is loosening restrictions on veterinarians who prescribe opioids for animals. A new law removes a requirement that vets check the prescription history of the person who brought in the animal. It also lifts a requirement to check Maine’s prescription monitoring system when veterinarians provide less than a two-day supply of opioids or tranquilizers in an emergency or mobile setting.
