Cop Killer Caught
(Norridgewock) – The announcement Saturday sent a wave of relief across an entire State. Accused cop killer John Williams is held at the Maine State Prison in Warren after a capture team spotted him outside a camp in Norridgewock. Police have yet to give precise details of how the capture went down other than to say Williams offered resistance. Pictures of the cabin show a shattered window. Officers grabbed Williams by the hair to pull his face up for a picture to confirm his identity. He’s at the Maine State Prison awaiting a court appearance. The Deputy he allegedly killed, Eugene Cole, will be laid to rest a week from today in Bangor.
Power Surges
(Bar Harbor) – Emera Maine officials are looking into power surge reports after numerous Bar Harbor residents report losing appliances after an outage a week ago yesterday. The reported surge also coincided with a fire that claimed two lives. A company spokeswoman says the utility is cooperating with the State Fire Marshal’s office which concluded late last week that destruction was too severe to determine what caused the fire on Russell Farm Road.
Manslaughter Verdict
(Belfast) – A 34-year old Rockport woman faces a stiff sentence following her conviction on manslaughter charges. Victoria Scott stabbed Edwin Littlefield to death outside a Waldo County residence in February 2017. She argued she stabbed Littlefield in self-defense. A sentencing date is set for June 8th.
Heroin Arrests
(Lamoine) – A young Lamoine couple faces significant prison time after drug agents arrested them on trafficking charges following a raid at their home. The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency reports to Star 97.7 that they’d watched Michael and Alicia Kane for about a month. Neighbors say they’d reported suspicious activity several months ago. Agents seized 51-grams of heroin worth about $15-thousand dollars. Two others, one from Connecticut the other from Holden, also face charges following the raid.
Card Brook Cleanup
(Ellsworth) Volunteers are sought for the annual Card Brook Cleanup, a collaborated effort between the city of Ellsworth and Frenchmen Bay Conservancy. City planning assistant Steve Fuller says Card Brook’s location near businesses and heavy traffic makes it prone to collecting a lot of garbage. Instructions will be given to volunteers gathered in the side parking lot at the Ellsworth Hannaford this Saturday morning at 9:30. Fuller says volunteers are eligible for prizes as a recognition and ‘thank you’ for their efforts.
Fatal Pedestrian Crash
(Bangor) A man hit by a car while walking on Hammond Street in Bangor earlier this month has died from his injuries. Bangor police tell WABI-TV on April 7th a vehicle hit 50-year-old Norman Stevens of Princeton and did not recover from the incident. The woman who drove the vehicle that hit Stevens is said to be cooperating with authorities and the DA will determine if any charges will be filed.
Fournier Sentence
(Bangor) The East Millinocket man convicted of killing a teen girl almost 40-years ago will spend the next 45 years in prison thinking about his crime. A judge on Friday sentenced Phillip Scott Fournier for the 1980 killing of Joyce McClain. The 16-year-old McLain disappeared after jogging one evening in August. Her body was discovered 2 days later. Fournier was 19 when McClain was murdered. The Bangor Daily News reports Fournier maintained his innocence in court today and is expected to appeal his conviction.
One Man, 2 Marathons
(Blue Hill) A fitness instructor from Blue Hill is testing his endurance in an effort to benefit area children. Phil LeBreton hit the treadmill at 6 this morning to run the equivalent of two marathons. LeBreton tells Star 97-7 all money raised benefits the PLAY Program. You can make a pledge by contacting the Blue Hill YMCA. LeBreton will run just over 52 miles before the day is out.
Detour
(Bar Harbor) A one-way detour utilizing the Park Loop Road in Bar Harbor goes into effect today. Contractor are working on new water and sewer services near Duck Brook and the Days Inn, and doing drainage work in nearby areas. There is construction along the Crooked Road to the National Park entrance and improvements on sidewalks on Mount Desert Street and Main Street. Workers will excavate and grade driveways from West Street to Eagle Lake Road. And utility crews are working from the Bluffs to Highbrook Road removing old poles and wires.
Hydrant Flushing
(Ellsworth) The City of Ellsworth Water Department begins flushing fire hydrants today and will continue the effort through May 11th. This process takes place each spring and fall. During the flushing, residents along the routes may experience dirty or yellow water, low water flow or low pressure. This is both expected and temporary but should subside soon after the flushing is complete. You can contact the Ellsworth Water Department with any questions.
