BAR HARBOR—The Jesup Memorial Library is growing, there are more items then ever in circulation and hundreds of programs already scheduled for 2018. The library needs your support more than ever! If you donate from now until Saturday, April 21, your donation will be doubled. A generous donor is matching up to $15,000 in donations made during National Library Week (April 8 to April 14) and National Volunteer Week (April 15 to April 21). Donations of all amounts are gratefully accepted.
“We’re grateful to a generous donor who will match up to $15,000 donated during National Library Week and National Volunteer Week,” said Ruth A. Eveland, director of the Jesup Memorial Library. “This year’s theme for National Library Week is ‘Libraries Lead’ and as we continue to offer more services and programs to the community, we are thankful for your help in leading the way.”
All money raised will go directly to support day-to-day library activities. As a private nonprofit, the Jesup has served as the public library in the town of Bar Harbor since opening on Aug. 30, 1911. 45% of our annual operating budget comes from generous individual and business donations. This money is necessary to provide all that the Jesup does for our community.
Already in 2018, the library has welcome over 1,800 people for story times, author talks, slideshows, a coding club and much more. Thousands of books, DVDs, audiobooks and more have circulated through the library and we have sent and received more than a thousand items from other Maine libraries through our interlibrary loan program. None of this would be possible without your considerable support. Please help us celebrate both National Library Week and National Volunteer Week by donating to the Jesup.
Donations can be made online at www.jesuplibrary.org/donate via the Jesup’s secure server, in person at the library, or mailed to 34 Mount Desert St., Bar Harbor, ME 04609.
