Murder Arrest
(Bangor) – Bangor police have charged a Boston native with murdering a 51-year old man on Second Street earlier this month. The Police Department tells Star 97.7 officers captured 29-year old F Daly during the weekend. He’s accused of shooting Israel Lewis to death on January 10th. Investigators did not give any details about the motive for the killing.
Child Porn
(Bangor) – A 43-year old Bangor man faces up to 20-years in prison and a quarter million dollar find after pleading guilty to possessing child porn. the US Attorney’s office tells Star 97.7 that David Jack entered the guilty plea on Friday. Last summer, Jack showed pictures of children engaged in sexual activity to a 9-year old girl. Bangor police seized two laptop computers and a cell phone from his home. A forensic exam of the devices revealed over 2-thousand child porn images.
Gouldsboro Manager
(N. Hampton, NH) – The current town manager of Gouldsboro is leaving in a few weeks to become the new town manager in North Hampton, New Hampshire. Local newspapers in North Hampton report Bryan Kaenrath will start his new job on March 12th. Kaenrath, a former state legislator, started as town manager in Gouldsboro in 2015. Selectmen will meet soon to decide how to search for a new manager and run the local town government until they hire a replacement.
Students Expelled
(Ellsworth) – School officials in Ellsworth have expelled three students who brought in marijuana laced candies to the high school. Other students told the school resource officer about the drug infused gummy candies which led to school officials taking action. They’re not identifying the students because of their age, but police say 19-year old Adam Bradshaw is charged with aggravated drug trafficking.
Bangor Fire
(Bangor) – Two Bangor firefighters are recovering from minor injuries after a blaze yesterday afternoon on Palm Street. WABI-TV reports one firefighter suffered chest pains from over exertion while another slipped on the ice. The fire started when a tenant tried to thaw out frozen pipes with an open flame. That set the house on fire, but the resident waited for about 10-minutes to call the fire department and tried to put out the fire himself.
Emera-Efficiency
(Ellsworth) Mainers who love winter and embrace the season may not be so fond of their electric bills after the extended period of recent cold temperatures. Emera Maine spokeswoman Judy Long says customers who use heat pumps in their homes can save money by letting the utility company know, as they offer a discount for electric heat use.
Crack Arrests
(Cherryfield) Drug agents locked up 5 people after a month-long investigation into the distribution of crack throughout Washington County. The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency reports 3 people from the Bronx New York traveled to Maine with large amounts crack and would set up shop at local homes to sell drugs and recruit new customers. After a nearly 2-hour standoff police arrested the trio along with 36-year-old Juan Borges of Cherryfield and 50-year-old Fred Rini of Harrington.
3rd Arson Arrest
(Masardis) Nearly 2 years after a truck fire in Masardis, fire investigators have charged a 3rd person with arson. In April 2016 a truck was destroyed at John Craig Trucking. The title-holder still owed $90-thousand-dollars on it, and investigators determined 48-year-old John Craig set the fire to collect the insurance money and was assisted by 25-year-old Richard Gilman. The pair claimed to be elsewhere with 41-year-old Melissa Sawyer at the time of the fire. New evidence shows Sawyer was part of the scheme; she was arrested Thursday in Aroostook County.
DE Correctional Facility Hearing
(Augusta) Senator Joyce Maker of Washington County and Representative William Tuell of East Machias will present a bill in Augusta to extend funding for the Downeast Correctional Facility for another year. The jail in Machiasport is currently slated to close the end of June, but approval of the bill would allow lawmakers enough time to come up with a plan for the next steps. The bill will be presented to the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee today (1/29).
Super Bowl Wager
(Bangor) The mayors of two Bangors are making a friendly Super Bowl wager. Mayor Ben Sprague of Bangor Maine says he’s confident the Patriots will do their jobs in bringing home a 6th title to New England. If Sprague is wrong and the Patriots lose next Sunday, he’s handing over a box of whoopie pies, a blueberry pie, a case of Moxie, a collection of Stephen King books and some local souvenirs. Mayor Brooke Kerzner of Bangor Pennsylvania is putting her faith in the Eagles, but if they lose she’s offering up beer, chocolates, coffee and a goodie basket from the Keystone State.
CMP Scam
(Ellsworth) The Ellsworth police department says dispatchers have received several calls in recent days reporting different phone scams. The schemes range in content but the scammer is always looking for money. One fake call claims to be a representative from Central Maine Power insisting your electricity will be shut off if you don’t pay up. Police say if you receive an unusual phone call just hang up.
