Home Invasion
(East Machias) – A home invasion robbery in East Machias during the weekend remains under investigation. Washington County Chief Deputy Michael Crabtree reports to Star 97.7 a woman called 9-1-1 just before 12:30 Saturday afternoon to report a man entered her home, pulled a gun, and demanded cash. He fled on foot, and investigators say it appeared he got into a vehicle and drove off. Crabtree says they do have a suspect.
Manchester Murder/Suicide
(Manchester) – An elderly Manchester couple has died in what police term a murder/suicide. State Police say they sent a tactical team to Clyde and Kimberly Shue’s home on Prescott road Saturday afternoon. He had called 9-1-1 that day to report a shooting inside his home. They found Mrs. Shue dead in her bed and he was dead in a mud room with a handgun by his side.
Waterville Standoff
(Waterville) – Some of the gunshots that a 23-year old Waterville man allegedly fired into his apartment floor narrowly missed people living downstairs. Police arrested Michael Joslyn after a 14-hour standoff from late Saturday night into mid-day Sunday. They got 9-1-1 calls that Joslyn was shooting inside his College Avenue apartment, and they’ve dealt with him before. The standoff ended around 11:30 yesterday morning.
Planned Outage
(Bar Harbor) Emera Maine crews are scheduled to perform maintenance to the electrical system in Bar Harbor tomorrow morning. Work will tentatively begin at 8 and will take about 3 hours to complete. Customers will be affected on Schooner Head Road, Sol’s Cliff Road, Lily Lane, Linden Lane, Seely Road, Windstar Lane, Paluga Lane, Compass Harbor Lane and Old Farm Road. Customers may experience interrupted service during that time.
Wreaths Across America
(Harrington) – The Wreaths Across America procession got a later than planned start yesterday, beginning the trip from Harrington to Arlington National Cemetery after a snowstorm dropped a half foot of snow on the roads. Executive Director Karen Worcester says the once small project has grown to an event that will leave 1-point-2 million wreaths on grave in 12-hundred locations.
Wreaths at Woodbine
(Ellsworth) An Ellsworth resident who’s been cleaning veterans’ headstones since retiring this summer is inviting the community to honor those vets this Saturday. New Ellsworth mayor Marc Blanchette says anyone can attend the Noon-time ceremony at the Woodbine Cemetery. Blanchette says citizens will help in placing 423 wreaths on veterans’ graves at Woodbine Cemetery.
Farm Animals Seized
(Sorrento) Authorities seized forty-four animals from a Sorrento man who has a history of animal cruelty charges. The director of Maine’s animal welfare program says they removed 14 sheep, 22 pigs and 8 rats last week from 51-year-old Marc Calcia’s farm. State officials described the living conditions for the animals as inhumane.
Raccoon Bite
(Ellsworth) Spotting a raccoon during the daytime is usually a sign it’s not healthy. Ellsworth police responded to Main Street on last week when a woman called in to report a raccoon acting strangely. Before police arrived another woman tried to pick up the animal it bit her. An officer put down the raccoon. A game warden picked up the animal and brought it to Augusta for testing.
BHMH Award
(Blue Hill) Blue Hill Memorial Hospital received recognition again for patient quality and safety. Spokeswoman Kelly Columber says the Top Rural Hospital honor shows their commitment to their patients and the community. Only 18 rural hospitals nationwide received the distinction this year.
