Burglary Spree
(Lamoine) – A Hancock County transient faces numerous charges after burglary sprees in Bar Harbor and Lamoine this week. State Police arrested 36-year old Tina Sieber as she allegedly broke into a home in Orland on Wednesday. Sieber is also believed responsible for several breaks in Bar Harbor, allegedly stealing a car. Lamoine residents started reporting burglaries on Tuesday, and Hancock County deputies discovered the stolen Volvo parked deep in the woods off Seal Point Road. Most of the stolen property was recovered. Sieber, who is considered a transient, has a lengthy criminal record.
Searsport House Demolition
(Searsport) – Firefighters in Searsport will burn the oldest house in town in the next few weeks, and the Historical Society is OK with that. The nearly 220-year old house on Main Street has connections to Samuel Houston, one of President George Washington’s body guards. Houston’s father built the house. Village Soup dot-com reports local historian Charlene Knox Farris said it makes sense to bring down the dilapidated building, as it contains little of historic value to the town.

Missing Priest

Searchers have hunted extensively for the former priest.
KW&W Monument
(Millinocket)-The Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument will remain in the Millinocket area for now. The designation by President Obama a year ago sets aside more than 87-thousand acres as public lands. President Trump had asked interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to review 27-national monuments added late in the Obama administration. The town council chair in Millinocket says while he once opposed the monument designation, he’d like to see if visitors will give a boost to the local economy.
Chief Moshier
(Ellsworth) Some jaws dropped and eyes widened at Monday night’s Ellsworth city council meeting when police chief Glenn Moshier shared a shocking tale. While discussing whether or not Ellsworth needs its own public safety building, chief Moshier spoke of an incident when a man with a handgun waited outside the police department in hopes of pulling the gun on an officer who would shoot him. Moshier says instead, the man later surrendered his gun and confessed he was suicidal.
Pontoon Crash
(Belgrade) – A pontoon boat crashed into a shorefront restaurant in Belgrade, injuring four people. The Maine Warden Service reports to Star 97.7 that James Julia was trying to dock his new 22-foot boat and jumped off to tie it to the dock, but left it in reverse. Julia asked another man on board the boat to shut it off, but the man instead pushed the throttle forward. The boat crashed into tables at the Village Inn Restaurant, causing minor injuries to four patrons.
Shooting Justified
(New Hampshire) New Hampshire’s attorney general says Massachusetts state troopers were justified in using deadly force on a man who led them on a 40-mile, multi-state car chase. In June police in Malden Massachusetts recognized Michael Brown of Presque Isle as a wanted man in Maine on sexual assault, firearms, and stolen vehicle charges. Troopers pursued Brown for over an hour until shooting and killing him in New Hampshire when he pointed a gun at police.
