Bail Revoked
(Bangor) – A man accused of causing a fatal accident on Route 3 in Bar Harbor in 2015 is back in jail after another drug related crash this week in Bangor. The Mt. Desert Islander reports 43-year old Miguel Garcia had his bail revoked after the crash Monday. Police say Garcia was driving an unregistered vehicle and tested positive for drugs when he got booked into the Penobscot County jail. Garcia also tested positive after the 2015 crash near the bluffs on Route 3 which killed a North Carolina man. He faces manslaughter charges in that crash.
Chase Sentence
(Belfast) – A 31-year old Bucksport man is headed to jail following a high speed chase last spring. Police first tried to stop Paul Davis in Belfast, but he sped off, police hot on his tail into Camden. Local police picked up the chase, but backed off after Davis started speeding through densely packed neighborhoods. The Pen Bay Pilot reports state police eventually stopped Davis in Belfast. A judge sentenced Davis to 90-days in jail and suspended his driver’s license for 30-days.
Old Guard
(Columbia Falls) The 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment will be in Washington County for a historic day of honor and tribute tomorrow. Wreaths Across America executive director Karen Worcester says a ceremony will unveil the newly designated Old Guard Memorial Grove in Columbia Falls. Balsam Valley Amphitheater opens at 4:30 tomorrow for evening events that include a performance by the Six-String Soldiers, and rock band Kansas on stage at 8.
Homicide Suspects
(New York City) – Two New York residents are fighting extradition back to Maine where they will face murder charges in connection with last week’s death in Cherryfield. The Bangor Daily News reports 19-year old Quaneysha Greeley refused to waive extradition in a New York courtroom this week. 37-year old Carine Reeves is charged with assault in New York and can’t return to Maine until that case is decided. Both are accused of killing traveling nurse Sally Shaw. A motorist spotted her body along Route 193, and authorities found a rental car about 15-miles away. Police have not said how Shaw died nor have they said what led to the suspects.
Bucksport Road
(Ellsworth) The Ellsworth Planning Board will review a Florida man’s proposal to build 12 mini homes on the Bucksport Road next week. The Ellsworth American reports Roy Lietz owns a 140-acre property and wants to build the 400 to 600-square-foot homes near the western end of Twin Hill Road. A city ordinance requires a minimum of 500-square feet. Board members will review the proposal during next Wednesday’s meeting at City Hall.
Apt Burglary Arrest
(Winslow) Winslow police arrested a 47-year-old man who allegedly forced his way into an apartment and threatened two people with a gun while stealing cash and other items. Police say both victims knew the suspect and were unhurt during the incident just after midnight Thursday. Officers patrolling nearby spotted the suspect’s car and conducted a high-risk felony stop. Mark Kennedy was arrested and charged with Robbery, Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Theft, Burglary, and Obstructing the report of a Crime.
15 Warrants
(SW Harbor) A driver allegedly responsible for a hit and run accident in Southwest Harbor turned out to be a wanted man. Police were called Tuesday morning around 11 after a box truck hit a store sign on Bass Harbor Road and drove away. The Mt Desert Islander reports police located the truck on Main Street but the driver said he lost his wallet, gave police his name and was released after completion of the accident report. When things didn’t seem to add up the officer did some research and discovered the man gave a fake name. It was actually 35-year-old Troy Woodman of Bucksport who had 15 outstanding warrants in 5 different Maine counties. Woodman was tracked down and arrested.
Cottage St Concept
(Bar Harbor) A proposed redesign of Cottage Street in Bar Harbor aims to improve the flow of traffic for cars and pedestrians while adding curb appeal. The Mount Desert Islander reports landscape architect Mike Rogers of Lark Studio created a conceptual design that includes better parking, crosswalks, trees and lighting. The most expensive part of the plan is burying power-lines and other overhead utilities in order to add trees. Town councilors accepted the plan last week, which was funded by $25-thousand-dollars in cruise ship passenger fees. The town manager is asked to explore ways the project could be financed.
