PSAP Vote
(Ellsworth) – The Hancock County Commissioners are scheduled to vote this morning on whether to farm out 9-1-1 call answering to Penobscot County. Reaction to the proposal has been nearly universally negative from town administrations and public safety officials. The proposal comes as the Hancock County Regional Communications Center is running out of room and few people apply for dispatching jobs. County officials say it could cost less money in the long run. Town officials say paying another county for the 9-1-1 call answering makes little sense and will only jeopardize public safety due to slower response times.
