Cherryfield Death
(Cherryfield) – Maine’s Medical Examiner’s office is using DNA evidence to try to confirm a woman’s identity. A passing motorist found her body early Wednesday morning in Cherryfield. State police spokesman Steve McCausland tells Star 97.7 the autopsy revealed how she died, but investigators are withholding that information. They are asking that anyone who drove by the intersection of Routes 9 and 193 overnight Tuesday into Wednesday to give them a call.
Dive Team
(Westbrook) – The State Police dive team combed the bottom of the Presumpscot River in Westbrook for a 2nd time in 5-days looking for clues about a Portland man’s whereabouts. Divers did not turn up anything after spending 3-hours in the river. They’d also searched the river last Saturday looking for anything that would help them find 30-year old Sebastian Kelley. He last was seen June 17th in Portland.
Seacoast Mission
(Bar Harbor) – The Maine Seacoast Mission plans to sell its waterfront Bar Harbor mansion and use funds to pay for services. Campbell’s soup heir Tristram Colket and his wife donated the mansion to the Sea Coast Mission 45-years ago. Assessing records in Bar Harbor value the land and building at more than $5-million dollars. The Sea Coast mission serves offshore islands in Downeast Maine, delivering a lot of their services via their boat, the Sunbeam.
PSAP
(Ellsworth) – A plan to move Hancock County’s 9-1-1 call answering to another county has received virtually no public support. County Commissioners decide on a plan to pay Penobscot County to answer the emergency calls and transfer those calls to dispatchers in Hancock County. Critics include the Regional Communications Center advisory committee, the Hancock County Firefighters Association and Selectmen in many towns. Selectmen in Lamoine last night signed a letter to Commissioners, saying money would be better spent increasing wage offerings to dispatchers to encourage more to apply for job openings.
SCOTME-Bar Harbor
(Augusta) – Maine’s highest court has sided with the Town of Bar Harbor in a dispute with a local attorney over whether two town councilors should have resigned. Arthur Greif complained to the town council a few years ago after two councilors allegedly asked the town’s code enforcement officer to spy on another town employee who was allegedly using the town’s photocopier for private business. The town council declined to investigate the councilors actions. Greif took his case to Superior Court, lost at that level, and the high court yesterday upheld that court’s ruling.

(Lincoln) – A Lincoln man arrested after a 22-hour standoff this week remains in jail, unable to come up with $5-thousand dollars in bail. Puppy Mill-Guilty
(Skowhegan) A Skowhegan woman accused of running an illegal puppy mill out of her home pleaded guilty to theft. 32-year old Nicole Bizier faced a judge Wednesday for charges brought against her earlier this year. She allegedly used other aliases to sell puppies online. State Police were contacted by 4 unhappy customers and an investigation revealed dogs were improperly vaccinated and Bizier produced fake vet records. WABI-TV reports she’ll be on probation for 2 years and must pay nearly $5-thousand-dollars in restitution.
Budget Woes
(Augusta) Communities are expressing confusion over education and tax changes in a last-minute budget deal that’s unlikely to offer promised relief to all taxpayers. The $7.1 billion, two-year budget includes initiatives sought by Republican Gov. Paul LePage, but he’s concerned about the amount of increased educating funding. The budget nixes a tax on the wealthy but adds $162 million in education funding over two years.
