Lincoln Standoff
(Lincoln) – When police came with warrants in hand to arrest William Bradbury in Lincoln around 2-o’clock yesterday afternoon he apparently wanted no part of that. Bradbury barricaded himself inside his West Broadway home, and that prompted a standoff that lasted overnight. The State Police tactical team and other law enforcement agencies blocked off the road and evacuated nearby homes as the standoff moved into the darkness. Police say he has weapons inside the home.
Tavern Fire – Arson
(Brewer) – Someone intentionally started the fire that destroyed a South Brewer tavern last week. Fire Investigators say the blaze at Cap’s Tavern started in the stairs leading to the upstairs apartment. A search dog discovered fire starting materials at the scene, and scientists at a laboratory are busying trying to determine what those materials are. Firefighters from several communities responded shortly after 11:00 Thursday night, about an hour after the pub had closed for the evening.
Bank Robbery
(Waldoboro) – A bank robbery yesterday in mid-coast Maine. Police in Waldoboro responded to the Camden National Bank branch on Route 1 around 2-thirty in the afternoon. Chief Bill Labomrbarde told Village Soup dot-com a man wearing a nylon stocking over his face and a floppy hat entered the bank, gave a teller a note demanding money, then fled on foot after the teller complied. Police are not saying how much the robber got away with. They’re asking the public for help with any information about the robbery.
Old Town Haz Mat
(Old Town) – No injuries reported after a hazardous materials incident in Old Town. Sulfuric acid vapors filled a University of Maine forest research building around 5-o’clock last evening. Firefighters evacuated the technology research center building near the former Diamond International Paper Mill in Downtown Old Town after the over-pressurized pipe burst. The center is experimenting with turning wood into bio-fuels.
Open Farm Day
(Maine) You can explore where your vegetable, meats, and dairy products come from during this Sunday’s Open Farm Day. More than 80 farms in Maine will be open to the public, giving consumers the chance to learn about local food producers and products. Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Commissioner Walt Whitcomb urges families to visit local farms on Open Farm Day, saying, “Our state is notable for the number of farms, new farmers, artisanal cheesemakers and its support for farmers markets and agricultural fairs.” Activities may include: barn and field tours, milking, hay rides, nature trails, samples for tasting, and animals to view. Wildlife Collisions
(Hancock County) – Rarely does a day go by without a motorist striking a deer in the road in Hancock County. Police reports from just the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department have shown an abundance of car/deer accidents in recent months. Michael Good, a wildlife expert who runs Downeast Nature Tours on Mt. Desert Island says it’s easier to anticipate animals in the road than to avoid them when they’re in front of you. Good said headlights and beeping horns don’t seem to scare animals out of the road.
Drugs & Violence
(Ellsworth) What began as an argument between a local couple ended with the man’s leg getting run over and the woman arrested on several charges. The Ellsworth American reports 39-year-old Nicole Butterworth of Ellsworth and a 43-year-old man were arguing on the Bucksport Road before 7 Sunday night. Butterworth started to drive away but stopped when the man put his arm in through the passenger-side window to unlock the door. Butterworth drove off, according to police, and the man was dragged a short distance until his arm came free and his leg was run over. Butterworth is charged with Domestic Violence Assault, Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon, and Drug Possession.
Camper Fire Fatal
(St. Albans) A 48-year-old woman died in a camper fire when combustibles were placed too close to a lit candle. Investigators tell WABI-TV a passerby noticed smoke coming from the camper on the Corinna Road in Saint Albans around 6AM Saturday. Rescue crews pulled Connie Bailey of West Newfield from the camper but could not save her.
Rt 3 Construction Update
(Bar Harbor) The Maine Department of Transportation says the section of Route 3 in Bar Harbor undergoing construction will be converted back to one-way traffic. That’s the stretch from Old Bar Harbor Road to Sand Point Road, detouring again onto Crooked Road. DOT officials remind drivers to pay attention to signage, traffic signals and flaggers. Excavating sub-grade and placing new gravel happens between Sand Point Road and Barton’s Lane. And drainage placement is underway from Barton’s Lane to Hamor Lane. All scheduling is subject to change and also weather dependent.
