Drug Dealer Sentenced
(Bangor) – A 42-year old Bangor man will spend the next 18-years in prison for dealing heroin. The US Attorney’s office reports to Star 97.7 that Mario Lee who used to live in the Bronx, entered a guilty plea to possessing more than 100-grams of heroin. He would supply heroin to street level dealers and has a prior drug trafficking conviction in New York State. Prosecutors say Lee, who went by the name “Moe” operated in the Bangor area between August 2013 and September 2015.
Hancock Town Meeting
(Hancock) – Voters in the Town of Hancock select new Selectmen, school board and Planning Board members today. Polls open this afternoon, and the annual town meeting follows tomorrow. A couple of the elections will end up filled by write-in candidates. No one submitted papers to run for one of the vacant school committee and one of the Planning Board seats. Also up for a vote is an ordinance to prohibit recreational marijuana sales in town.
SW Harbor-ATV Crash
(Southwest Harbor) – An ATV rider suffered serious facial injuries after a crash in Southwest Harbor during the weekend. It started when police responded to the Seal Cove Road for a complaint about someone riding the 4-wheeler. He fled when officers arrived, but crashed at the intersection with Long Pond Road. Authorities tell Star 97-7 the 24-year old was transferred to Eastern Maine Center for treatment of serious injuries. The Maine Warden Service and Hancock County Sheriff’s Department helped reconstruct the crash.
SCF Ground Breaking
(Ellsworth) Special Children’s Friends breaks ground this morning to expand its Union Street facility in Ellsworth. Executive director Linda Henderson says the additional square footage means helping more special needs children in Hancock County. Henderson says the program is full but there should be openings in the fall with the expansion. Contact Special Children’s Friends to learn how to enroll.
Theft Summons
(SW Harbor) – Criminal charges now face the former finance director in Southwest Harbor. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department tells Star 97.7 they issued a summons to 36-year old Tabbetha Newenham after other town officials say she inflated her vacation time resulting in a higher than earned payout when she left her job more than a year ago. Newenham said the town still owes her a day’s pay. She’s due in court in August.
HCSO Good
(Ellsworth) Members of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office are getting some good publicity for going above and beyond their call of duty. Early last Wednesday morning a young woman on her way to WalMart to buy groceries was badly injured in a car accident. WVII-TV reports deputies and dispatchers who work the night shift got together and completed the family shopping.
Mom’s Day 5K
(Prospect Harbor) A 5K this coming Sunday will fund camp and college scholarships for kids living in Winter Harbor and Gouldsboro. The Moms on the Run – Mother’s Day 5K begins at 8:30 from the Peninsula Grammar School in Prospect Harbor.
