Route 3 Project
(Bar Harbor) – Traveling to and from Downtown Bar Harbor over Route 3 will present challenges to drivers starting this month and running through the spring of 2019. Motorists have already begun seeing significant delays in spots on Route 3, and the heavy work has not yet begun. That’ll change in the next few days as parts of the road will become one-way only for most of the day. Construction crews are performing an $18-million dollar rebuild of more than 4-miles of the narrow, deteriorating road. The Department of Transportation says that will mean new traffic patterns during construction and detour signs have started appearing.
Park Loop Road
(Acadia Ntl Park) – Road crews are cleaning up a rock slide in Acadia National park with hopes of reopening the Park Loop Road tomorrow. The freeze and thaw cycle this winter was pretty severe in the park, and that loosened up ledges along the road, bringing rocks down into the travel lanes. WABI-TV reports firefighters used high pressure water to loosen up soil on the ledges this week to bring any more rocks down that might be loose before the motoring public gets on the road.
Ranked Choice
(Augusta) – Maine’s Supreme Court listened to arguments from both sides in the ranked choice voting issue yesterday. An opinion is likely soon. Voters in November approved the rule that would let voters rank their choices in races that have 3-or more candidates. The Legislature has questioned the constitutionality of the question as Maine’s constitution clearly states that state and federal office holders are elected with a plurality of votes. That means whoever gets the most votes wins, even if it’s not a majority of people voting. Ranked choice backers claim their system would result in a majority win.
Benefit Dinner
(Sullivan) A spaghetti supper will benefit Sullivan couple who lost everything in a house fire on March 26th. Alma Carter recently survived brain cancer then suffered a broken leg. While she was recovering in a rehabilitation facility her home caught fire. Alma’s husband Danny was home sleeping at the time and escaped when their dog alerted him to the fire, but he was so overwhelmed he suffered a heart attack outside waiting for the fire trucks to show up. The Carter’s niece, Jackie Wycoff, says they need to raise about $5-thousand-dollars. The spaghetti supper is at the Sullivan Rec Center tomorrow night at 5 with a Chinese Auction.

(Gloucester, MA) – Police in Massachusetts arrested a 58-year old Bucksport man on drunk driving charges. Joseph Nally now faces his 7th OUI charge. Nally faces numerous charges.
14th Meth Lab
(Cornish) – A western Maine man out on probation following a drug bust last month is back in jail after drug agents dismantled a meth lab. Police had conducted a probation check on 31-year old James Wildes of Cornish and found evidence of a meth lab. Wildes was on probation for a pharmacy robbery back in 2010. He and three other men are charged with operating the meth lab. It’s the 14th meth lab arrest in Maine so far this year.
Drug Charges Pending
(Hiram) A Hiram man out on bail for causing a fatal crash in December now faces drug charges. State police spokesman Steve McCausland says a bail check on 29-year-old Philip Macri on Wednesday found him in possession of cocaine, pot, and guns at his Richardson Road home. Macri was on bail charged with manslaughter, aggravated OUI and two counts of aggravated assault following the crash in Windham on December 1st last year. Killed in that crash was 38-year-old Rebecca Perry, and her teenage daughter was seriously injured. As part of his release on bail, Macri was ordered not to use or possess firearms, alcohol, illegal drugs or marijuana. State police will charge Macri with aggravated drug trafficking.

Living Organ Donors
(Maine) The Maine House voted unanimously Thursday to override the governor’s veto of a measure to protect living organ donors from discrimination. Representative Catherine Nadeau’s bill protects living organ donors by prohibiting insurance companies from denying them coverage or increasing their premiums for life insurance, disability insurance, and long-term care insurance. Living organ donors are individuals who donate an organ to a friend, family member, or even a stranger in need.
