Fatal Follow Up
(Frankfort) – A Waldo County woman who died in a head on collision Monday was under investigation in connection with another head-on crash last summer in Searsport. The Bangor Daily News reports the probe into last summer’s crash involving 34-year old Teresa Sirois of Brooks was still open – police are not sure what caused the crash. In both accidents Sirois’s 3-year old toddler was in a car seat and suffered non-life threatening injuries. It’s not clear whether the probe into last summer’s crash will continue.
Bar Harbor School Officer
(Bar Harbor) – The school board on Mt. Desert Island will discuss placement of a police officer in the high school and elementary schools at their next meetings. The Mt. Desert Islander reports two former school board members have been vocal in their opposition to a school resource officer. School officials say they polled students, staff and parents, and there is overwhelming support having officer Tim Bland assigned to classrooms.
Wife Accused
(Acton) A 46-year-old woman is being held at the York County Jail accused of killing her estranged husband. State police say Kandee Weyland is also charged with violating a protection order. Dead is Scott Weyland of Acton who was assaulted outside his home Wednesday afternoon and died upon arrival at a Sanford hospital. The Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy Thursday. The couple’s two children are now staying with family members.

(Local) It’s sometimes called the “winter blues” – Seasonal Affective Disorder is prevalent this time of year and occurs more frequently in higher elevations. Acadia Family Center’s executive director Dr. Dan Johnson says symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder are similar to depression. To help with the condition Johnson recommends light or “photo” therapy in the morning and also exercise by getting out and moving.
Camden Town Manager
(Camden) A newly appointed Community Search Committee will soon review resumes in the hunt for a new town manager in Camden. Village Soup reports the search follows the resignation of former town manager Patricia Finnegan last month. After the first round of interviews is completed, the Select Board will review the results then conduct the second round of interviews. The goal is to have a new town manager in place by late April or early May.
Collins on Trump
(Augusta) Republican Maine U.S. Senator Susan Collins says she’s open to using a subpoena to investigate Republican President Donald Trump’s tax returns for potential connections to Russia. Collins sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election. Trump has refused to disclose his tax returns, saying he’s under IRS audit.
Moose Hunting
(Augusta) State biologists have proposed keeping the same number of moose hunting permits in all but three of Maine’s 24 hunting districts. The Portland Press Herald reports moose hunting permits for the coming season would be eliminated in three districts, which extend roughly from Augusta to Ellsworth and south from Pittsfield and Old Town to the coast. The districts made up 60 of Maine’s more than 2,100 moose permits last year.
Air B-n-B Info
(Portland) Data from Airbnb shows that hosts in Maine using the online home-sharing service earned about $26 million and hosted about 174-thousand visitors last year. Air BnB allows people to advertise their rooms, apartments and homes for a relatively short period. The data released Wednesday shows that the majority of those rentals were in Portland, where more than 51-thousand people were hosted. Owners earned about $7 million.
Colby College-Sports Complex
(Waterville) A Portland developer and his wife have committed to donating $10 million toward a new athletic complex at Colby College that’s slated to open in about three years. The Morning Sentinel reports that the Waterville school says the gift from Joe Boulos, a Colby alumnus, and his wife is the largest gift it has received so far from the couple.
